My Problem with rap and hip hop

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by The_genius, Feb 20, 2009.

  1. Yup, I converted my friend to a hip hop head a few years ago...I think a lot more people would claim to be hip hop fans if they heard some of the "true" hip hop that they've never heard, and that's still being released.

  4. Yea like others have said in this thread, you most likely just despise mainstream rap.

I know I still do, and always have. I like only a select few mainstream rap acts/songs.

A lot of people have already nailed who to check out, and you seem to enjoy the groups that I would've suggested.

Madvillain is a great one. Jedi Mind Tricks are amazing. Cunninlynguists, army of the pharoahs, company flow, cannibal ox, aesop rock, clipse, nas, heiroglyphics, deltron 3030, a tribe called quest, dead prez, el-p, gza, wu-tang clan, jurassic 5, madlib, main source, method man, mr lif, black star, raekwon, rjd2(specifically deadringer) are all worth checking out in my opinion.

  5. Wow...Such a response! I love it! I asked to be enlightened and the City did just that. The Genius feels loved

  8. Nas-shootouts, great song on a great album(although I like illmatic a bit more)...was just bumping on my speakers earlier.

  9. I'm impressed cause I'm a music lover...seriously. Been playing saxophone for 8 years, been singing for 3 years, and my first year in college I was a music major. I'm impressed cause I always thought that rap and hip hop went deeper but i never had anybody show me that it went deep enough to show the true art in the genre. It's not hard to impress me, you just gotta show me the ART instead of the mass media trash that is put out by record companies these days in ALL genres just to make money. Thanks GC...really. Let a man listen to real music...amuse him for a minute. SHOW a man music and enlighten him for a lifetime.

  10. to be honest i think the how we roll is kind of weak (for canibus that is) except it has that one line, you know which one im talkin about if youve heard it;), probably my favorite rap punchline of all time

It's not about finding something in a genre.. It's about finding something you like regardless of what it's 'classified' under.

I listen to rap all day.. I like stuff people hate on for whatever reason.

Vibed to pretty much everything mentioned in this thread at one point or another.

TECH N9NE look him up.. haven't seen it in here yet i just skimmed through though.
His older albums, Absolute Power and Anghellic are real good.. newer ones are more of an acquired fanbase you could say.. but i think it's all good.

Good energy good lyrics... really puts effort into compiling a track is all I can say

  18. Immortal Technique - Dance with the Devil
    MF Doom - Doomsday

  19. since you like atmosphere.. check out mac lethal
they are basically the only rap I listen to.
