My plants are in vegetation, should I be spraying them with more than just water?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by eem, Mar 26, 2010.

  1. Should I spray them with fertilizer mixed in the water? I heard a mixture of molasses and dishsoap is good. Whats all your guys experience on this subject?

  2. Your mixing dishsoap in with your ferts? That doesn't sound good man, unless i'm missing something:confused:

  3. No Im not doing it, I just heard.

So I'm asking, do you guys spray your plants with anything more than just water during vegetative stage?

And how often do you spray them?

  4. A lot of people don't spray their plants at all. Some claim that it can burn your plants if the light is reflected/magnified through the water...or the nute solution just burns the hell out of it chemically. It's also called a "foliar feed" if you use a nute mix, in which you feed your plants nutrients through the leaves.

Typically, a foliar feed is only used when the roots are incapable of taking in nutrients. This will occur when the soil's PH is too high or low. If your plant is taking in nutrients okay, there is no real need for a foliar feed. A light dose of Cal/Mag or Epsom Salts are commonly used because they are "light" and don't easily burn a plant in small doses.

Some people do it to supplement the normal feeding, I guess it all depends on your personal preference and what works best for that particular plant.

I know there are many more opinions and information regarding this topic, maybe search for "foliar spray" or something like that to find similar threads and additional info - I know I've seen more around the City. Good luck dude.

I would definitely not recommend using dish soap. The only reason that could be used as a leaf spray would be as a last ditch effort to get rid of a bug infestation, but I mean as a last resort. Remember, this is the material you will be inhaling later on - whatever the plant receives, you receive.

    Why?

I mean, if you're dead set on doing it, then go for it...if it hurts them, you'll know and learn from it. But if you have no real grounds for doing it, then it might be kind of a superfluous act.

But they may enjoy it. Spraying with straight water can increase the humidity in the grow area, so if that's low spraying isn't a bad idea. It can really only be a bad idea when you mix up a strong, chemical nute with it, it's easier to burn those leaves than you'd think.

Don't spray too often - maybe once or twice a day. Run a search around the City about this matter, you'll dig up some more information that might be more beneficial to you.

I dont know why they just look like they want me to spray them.

    There telepathically communicating with me.

  8. plants are talking to you........maybe you might want to wait until after you have checked the plants before sparkin up. just a suggestion

Thanks for the laugh this morning ...I needed it.:yay:

  9. if you spray, use plain water and only do it once or twice a day max. Misting is unneeded for seedlings or plants.

Clones need misted regularly but that is because they dont have any roots.

misting plants when not needed can lead to mold/fungus growth and bugs.

  10. ^^this. Don't mold the smoke. I can tell you I do not know anyone who does mist their plant tho I have herd of plenty who do or talk about it. Basically even bottled water can leave mineral deposits behind that can be bad for the plant. Plus remember you eventually want to smoke this stuff. I'm sure deposits over time would taste bad but i could be wrong here.

  11. all plants and all animals can communicate with us

no they dont speak in english, but they do communicate by projecting out energy and they are aware of your presence

jeez. seriously, I would thought a weed growing forum would be filled with people highly concious to plant communication.

  12. I dig what you're saying here. I mean even in the plant's afterlife it speaks to me. Right now I can here it telling me to roll it up! :D:p

    Heh, yeah, understandable...

But there is mostly science and biology involved in growing, not much communication through energy. Just because you think your plants want to be sprayed, doesn't mean they will benefit from it. Of course, certain vibes can affect matter in different ways, but you can't grow chronic with just good vibes.

Posessing a vast knowledge of the plants biology, abilities and nutrient needs will better allow you to "communicate" with your plants and provide them with not only the good vibes they enjoy, but also the physical properties they require to actually grow.

Grrowers post above is good advice when it comes to spraying your plants. Definitely do not spray a flowering plant, as it will drastically increase the chances of mold forming and ruining your bud.

  14. The only thing my plants say to me is "where is the lighter" I love my plants and talk to them regularly but if they answer back ...i am going back to bed...and staying there....roflmfao

  15. i would just spray them with sterilized water (distilled).

it isn't going to burn them like that other guy said.

i would just be careful about keeping your plants environment TOO humidified (am i making up words?)

high humidity environment are favorites of fungus and if you have a fungus...you're in some deep trouble.

a light shower a couple times a day wont hurt it (especially sproutlings, adolescents and vegging plants). just dont go crazy on it...

dishsoap=dumb...maybe if it's like 1% dishsoap its possible, but i would just stay away from that since youre a beginner

  16. there are a lot of opposing views in this thread. i am a seasoned grower.
first, dish washing liquid like Palmolive is 100% ok to use BUT in small amounts like 1 or 2 DROPS per gallon, it is a spreader/sticker, basically when used with soil plants you would add it with your water/nutes and it will help penetrate the soil for better uptake sm-90 is pretty much the same thing but has a few extra ingredients, with foliar feeding it helps to penetrate the leaf, when you foliar feed you are using light doses of nutes like 1/4 strength. you can foliar feed during flower till about week 3 then i would stop. it is good for the plant to be sprayed with ph'd water throughout the veg period, you do it early in the day and after you spray you give your plant a light shake so any excess water comes off so the light wont magnify on any leaves, make sure to spray on the undersides of the leaves so that the stomata are cleaned because that is part of the plants respiratory system.
happy plants = larger more potent results = happy grower :yay:

  17. dude u gt everything jumbled up..
firstly no daily sprayin or even regular..one a week should be okay to cleanse foliage..
secondly...u dont mix molasses n dishsoap..molasses are generally fed at times of flowering ..correct me if wrong..and u dont need that dishsoap ..hopefully..unless u have a bug infestation....

  18. No need to, you've got the info straight :smoking:
