hey grasscity whats up, so i got my new cab yesterday, spent about 2 hours sweating myself silly to get it ready for my babies, just added another fan and a 250W metal halide, its bright as hell in there now, temps are at around 26C, which isnt perfect but will do for now, im probably gona add another fan in there, and also go for flat white, id like to get some of that waterproof/lightproof black/white material, anyone know where id find that? anyway here it is! cab before i removed the floor and dropped the pots down, they were about 6 inches from the CFL's when they were sat inside After - im planning on building an mdf extension so the cab is about 1/2 ft deeper all round Light intake and fan Exhaust thats it, suggestions for improvement apprecciated!
here is the now very almost finished cabinet, i say very almost cos im now thinking about making a mum section on the right where the floor hasnt been pulled out, iv used foam mountboard to seal the bottom, took awhile but definitely easier than making somethin outa mdf! its pretty much light tight, although i anticipate a glow coming through the mountboard when the lights (outside) are off. temps are holding at 26.1 wit the doors open, DEFINITELY going to need another fan in there, at the moment the fan i had blowing over the canopy is pointed at the light, this has brought the temps down about 2 degrees.
do you have a fan that is just for cooling the light? that is definitely necessary for a 250watt in a space that size. that light is something ive been looking into for my box but they create a lot of heat and need to be cooled. as the plants get bigger your definitely gonna want to get that light cool.
hey aerohead, yes there is a fan blowing on the light, and im just about to go get another one for the actual plants!
ok so iv just added another oscillating fan into my cab, that brings the total to 2 12cm CPU fans 1 6inch desk fan (to cool the light) and one 12 inch oscillating fan to keep the air moving, there is ALOT of air movement in the cabinet now, cant be a bad thing! i just picked up the ballast and it burnt me, this makes me abit worried as on the side it says 50C which im guessing is the temperature it should be kept UNDER! i had no idea ballasts could get THAT hot...the babys have been absolutely LOVING the new light, theyv filled out loads, lookin really good, cant wait to see how they look when i next transplant! im hoping to sex them before that as i think 3 is pushing it for this light, i want to go for a scrog as this cabinet suits it perfectly and i love seeing hundreds of lil budsites! anyway here are some pictures: New fan in cab: WW - One the older, which i will from now on refer to as Sativa for obvious reasons. just topped this one, how did i do? WW - Two lookin nice n green i noticed some white circles on the leaves of all three plants, when i rubbed the leaves they came off, i think this is due to my misting last night at bedtime (for the plants) im hoping its this and not spidermites, i looked carefully for eggs and couldnt see any but some confirmation would be nice! ta all AA
stop folair feeding, it can and will cause more problems than good. It also reduce the amount of root growth which is another negative.
Co2 is heavier than air and falls very rapidly, your hoses should be Over the tops of the plant not under it.
oh didnt know that about foliar feeding Chimera, i wanted to raise humidity and dier - i put the tube over the plants when i switch the valve, i do this probably 3 times a day for 45 minutes, so when its not in use i just move it aside or let it fall on the pots. what distance should i have this light from the plants? its a 250 Watt MH, not sure of the brand as i cant find the box atm, currently the light is about 30 inches from the tops.
good call on the foam board, mdf warps bends expands goes all out o wack on the slighest drop of water. Sucks it up like a sponge
Nice setup mate!! Looks like youve go the ventlation and temps sorted... What strain are you growin? Sounds like you sweated out some alcohol in the build.... unless you were drinking on the job
hey i see you have aluminum foil all around, in my friends experience it reflects more heat than light, a surface thats painted white works much better, should lower the temp and reflect more light.
