I just bought this for my small grow area.: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00269RWQI/ref=oss_product]Amazon.com: Sun System 150 Watt HPS Reflector, Ballast and Bulb: Patio, Lawn & Garden[/ame] The problem is it doesnt have a clear glass/plastic cover on the bottom, and I heard that the ones that have them are optimal. I am wondering what I could use to simulate one of these...thanks!!
Ah dang nabbit... did you already purchase that... I posted a link to a cheaper/better light in your other topic...
i dont understand y u would need a glass cover. unless ur gonna have one with ducting so as to trap heat and exhaust it out with a fan right??
It is too late for me to get another light, but i can return this boy if needed.. but i read something about the light gives off some chemical and its safer to have a glass cover?? not sure how important that is though..
If it blows, I mean the glass breaks it will give of some gas that isnt good for plants, thats where air vented enclosed hoods have and advantage. If you replace your bulb after a certain number of grows or months of use then your pretty safe.
Not sure what your concerns are Only way the bulb will give off anything other than light and heat is if it breaks The glass shield is there to protect the plants from hitting the bulb and to protect the bulb from lets say some spray back that may land on the bulb from some leaf feeding and help with cooling if you have a duct attached
