  1. Hey my friend is growing in his room .. he ordered seeds different kinds all female seeds .. he did the germination steps by putting it into a glass of water hiding it for 24hrs and changing it into a wet paper towel and stuff to make them germinate then he accidentally didn't water the soil before planting he is using the Happy Frog 5-5-5 soil w/ a 600watt light with 7 seeds under them he has his amp sending out 75% of light watering almost daily because the soil gets so dry some of the seeds are on top of the soil which he heard was a good sign .. is he doing okay how much should he water a day and is his seeds gonna sprout anytime soon its been like two days i think .. he is worried .. help me out .

  2. Water until you get 10% runoff. Wait until the soil is conpletely dry before water. Top inch should be dry and the container should be much lighter. Usually every 2-3 days. Make sure he has drainage holes

  3. whats 10 percent run off ? and is it a good sign that the seeds are on top of the soil kinda now .. ? and it gets really dry really fast and he waits til its completely dry to water .. and whats usually ever 2-3 days ?

  4. Water until 10% of the water he poured seaps through the soil and comes out of the bottom. You usually need to water FFHG in party cups every 2-3 days.

And the seed should not be above the soil. He should allow the white taproot to show (from germination) and plant taproot straight down 1/2" under the soil

I recommend that you get him to sign up to GC and ask for himself :p :smoke:

  5. There's some debate on planting tap root down BYO.. I know, I thought it was crazy too, I've always planted tap root down after germination

Some people were giving it a go planting tap root up... Forces the tap root to redirect down and it's more likely to shuck the seed shell by the time it pops out! Turns out it works just as well

You should post pics of your grow.

    Or get your friend too...

  6. Well he put the tale downwards into the soil and covered it with soil and now the seed is poking out of the soil .. but the soil seems cracking or like its a earth quake ha .. and he dont want to water it to much so he just water it enough where the surface is wet and then he puts water on the bottom of the things the cups are sitting on so it can soak it up .. So tomrrow when he waters it does he put alot so it sinks down the bottom of the cup holes ?

  7. When you water, really water it. Don't water a little to keep it moist, completely saturate the soil and let it dry out, saturate the soil completely, let it dry out, etc. Like I said water should seep the whole way through the soil and out the bottom. If you water only a little, but frequently, the roots will suffocate from lack of oxygen.

  8. Does the pictures help ?

  9. Cover the seed with a 1/4" or so of soil

  10. He already did when he planted em .. The seeds are coming through the soil .. But no sprouts have emerged .. And it's been 2 days .

  12. How far away is the 600w? Can you turn it down to 25%? That is massive overkill and the heat from it is drying the soil out too fast IMO. Use a little 26 watt cfl and save the electricity and bulb for when they are needed. The seeds should have been germinated until there was a taproot showing then planted at a depth of 2x's the diameter of the seed, approx 1/4 inch. If a seed is planted before the taproot is protruding the taproot can push it out of the soil. At your stage the top of the soil should be kept a bit moist to allow for moisture w/o drowning the seed. I think you have a lot of research to do if you don't want this crop to be a failure.

  13. It is about a foot above the plants

  14. That's too close. Try 2-3 ft

  15. So He should lower the plants ? But it has not sprouted yet and He has the lights on 75% ... Do you know when sprouting happens ?

  16. I read about this, but thought is was shit, i thought it would take longer to sprout.

  17. It's too close to a sprout, I kept my 400w 3 ft from them until they sprouted, 2ft when they sprouted.

He needs to bury the seed if it's laying on the top.

  18. He buried the seed when he planted em it the seed has moved to the top somehow

  19. The seed came up because of the water it floated up it happens like the perilite in the soil always comes to the top same thing and to much light which means to much water which flooded the seed to the top
