This is my first try. I think I have maybe taken too many big leafs off. I will not remove no more until either just b4 flowering or 2 weeks into flowering. I think I am coming along ok for my first go. I will b keeping it in veg for another month. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
you dont want to remove any 2 weeks into flowering more like week 5 at 2 weeks they are just starting their stretch leading into week 3 you want as much growth as you can get then thin it out week 5 and leave it alone to fatten up. spread them out a little more, pull them closer to the edge of the pot, what size pot is that? nice healthy looking plant just trying to get your plant trained right for maximum light penetration and growth to equal a better yield if youre not going to scrog may need to wind up topping the taller growth to allow the center and shorter growth to catch up. also i wouldnt give it 2 weeks to grow back before flower flip. 2 to 3 days after defoliation and flip to flower. use training and tucking to improve light penetration. super cropping and lst
Thanks for your advice. I am still a little paranoid about training. I thought my plant looks ok for light getting through the plant but I will nip the taller ones if they get bigger than the other ones. Thanks dude. Updates will follow later.
If you are vegging another month you could strip every leaf bigger than your thumb nail and a month from now no one would have any idea you did that. Once plants get to the size you are at they start growing really really fast.
Yeah I did notice a big change in the growth since I introduced to the medium. So your saying that removing the bigger leafs is ok? Even tho I had done some already? I don’t want to stress the plant out.
I nipped the top nodes like you said yesterday(Thursday). The smaller ones need to try n catch up. I totally understood ur opinion and was going to do that at some point but u just made my mind up for me. Thanks for ur advice but I still not sure on stressing out my baby with removing too many leafs during the veg stage.
I am a month in and everything going great. I’m using a 400w led light with is dimmable. A grow tent 60x60x140cm(small I know)for my first time. I am using canna nutrients and following a guide for a rough guide on a feeding times. The temp and humidity here in the uk doesn’t seem to need my attention which is great. Might change later though. I wanted to get everything before I started but there’s alway somethings u need to get
Yeah removing the bigger leaves was fine. I would remove most of those low nodes, they will never catch up to the rest of her.
Wouldn’t worry too much about stressing them in veg. I have savaged all kinds of vegging girls in various ways. As long as they get a couple weeks of good growth in their final pot before they go into flower, they always do their thing just fine. Good luck on your grow dude. Cheers
Hi my friend. Sorry I have been quiet I have been trying to concentrate on my plant. At first I thought I had removed too many leafs but the photo below is how it looks just now. I am not due to switch to flower for 2-3 weeks yet. But I was wondering about fitting a net before flowering, does it help? This is my first grow so I don’t know wot to expect but I have read a lot and watched a few ppl on YouTube. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
If it were me, I would go ahead and get your net set up and give it the next couple (maybe more depending on how big a plant you want) weeks to work on filling it out before I would flip to 12-12. Lookin good
I understand your uncertainty on how far to go with defoliating. I have defoliated my crops for years. As a matter of fact I will defoliate 8-12 times during a Grow. When you defoliate you are not going to stress your plant, you stimulate it. Just don't defoliate it by cutting it off at the ground. After you have defoliated, your plant has a massive root system compared to the above ground portion. That root system is a power plant system that will Drive new growth. Fruit growers will major prune their plants to maintain healthy growth and bare abundant fruit. We are doing the same to our Cannabis plants when we prune and defoliate. Wine and grape growers do the same. The fruit farmer is a little different as they grow for the fruit. We grow seedless Cannabis flowers and hopefully never take it to the fruit (seed) stage. Defoliation is beneficial in many ways. It helps with disease and insect control, most importantly it allow light to penetrate deeper into the plant canopy. I have attached a link to my Grow journal for my current crop. Pebble Punch in Colorado Take a look and see the progression of growth through several defoliation. Take it from an carreer horticulturist, pruning and defoliation will stimulate your plants.
Thanks friend. I do think when I do my second grow I will do things differently. This forum is very good and helpful if you get stuck. Cheers fella.
Thanks friend I will take a look at ur crop later mate. I also noticed that how quickly the plant can create new leafs. Everyday u notice a difference. I live in the uk…this will mean the grow will b different from the USA. I have noticed that our water is bang on the perfect PH for nutrients,I haven’t used PH up or down yet. Thanks again my friend.
Umm why would a UK grow be different than USA? Do plants grow differently under the supervision of an almighty queen?
I would flower the plant off now, pull shoots down and thin the plant out as she grows, the plant could triple in size as she is very healthy, if you wait 2 weeks, the plant could double in size and the roots will start to get root bound causing you problems in flower, you could re pot the plant in a larger pot and carry on vegging, depends how big you want the plant
For 1 our ph doesn’t need adjusting. Well my grow hasn’t needed ph up or down. If I am right the USA will have to watch that. Second is our humidity…I am not sure on this but I think there’s a difference on that too. I think they may be more differences ,I am not sure tbh. This is my first time. Glad there’s been some improvement. In the future you may need to deal with pH swings or drifts. This can happen even with the best water. As the plant uses certain nutrients in the soil or hydro solution the remaining nutrients could create a reaction causing the potential hydrogen (pH) to be affected. You may soon realize that there may be a need to monitor pH.
Lol water is different all over the US and UK. Comes down to geology and luck. Humidity is different all over the US. Some places are crazy dry some places are like rain forest. The USA is 40 times bigger than UK. Vastly different environments depending on location. Either way, you are growing indoors. You control temperature and humidity indoors so the weather outside is irrelevant which is why i say geographical location really donest matter at all unless you live somewhere with terrible water. There were a few feet of snow on the ground when i took this picture. The snow outside was likely as high as the plants were inside. Just some soil from the grow shop, average tap water, and 10 to 20% strength general hydroponics trio.
