  1. Hey Everyone,

Im Chula. You may have seen me around here a bit. Im new to this.. like very. Im hoping u guys will hold my hand thru this first go around..lol

I am tryin to grow like one nice plant for myself. I have cancer n i cant get legal bud here where i live in the apple.

Anyway, here goes... Ill be using CFL's and Bag Seed for this first test run.

    Here goes nothing....

So about 36 hours ago i grabbed a bunch of bag seed my roomie and i have collected and we followed the germinating instructions...
[3 layers of paper towel, water n a zip lock- dark closet]
This is what we have.... Im already concerned since i heard the seedling shouldnt be so long...? What should i do next? im runnin out to go get my soil now.

    Attached Files:

  2. They're fine just hurry and get them into soil..one of the seeds already opened up into leaves and they just want to be in that soil.

  3. ok... just got back n this is all i could find for the moment....

    SOIL
New Era House Plant Potting Mix
    40% canadian peat moss
    35% composted organic material
    20% Vermiculite
    5% washed sand

    Analysis
    .14% Nitrogen
    .056 ammoniacal nitrogen
    .084 nitrate nitrogen
    Available phosphate .21%
    Soluble Potash .14%

    Regular 16 oz party cups
    a clip lamp
cfl's- 22W/100W ---- kelvins werent listed on box so i got 2 in case
    spray bottle n waterer
    saran wrap....

i was considering using a kitchen cabinet that never gets used to do this...
any idea how to set up the space???????? help!

You really needed to put some thought into the space ahead of time. Plants can get very large. Whatever size they are vegetating, they will double or triple when you flower it so take that into consideration.

You'll probably make it roughly 2 to 3 weeks before the soil is out of nutrients (this is typical; soil is just a medium and nothing more) and at that point you'll need to add nutrients to the soil.

You need 6500k CFL for vegetation and 2700k CFL for flowering. They can vary a tiny bit (a few hundred) but should remain in the same place. You need at least 100 ACTUAL watts for the first plant to veg and flower and 50 watts for every plant thereafter. So every CFL you've bought is 22W so you need at least 5 to get to a safe zone for one plant...

So if you're ok with basic algebra...n is the number of plants...

    Watts Required = 100 + [50*(n-1)]

EDIT: Those lights say Daylight which is typically the higher range of 5000-6500 so you should be fine vegging with those. In the very beginning as sprouts they don't need much light but once they get leaves they need as much as you can give them without hurting them heat wise. Ensure your grow area is between 70-85ish degrees fahrenheit or you'll burn/freeze the little guys.

You really should go look around the forums and read up on how to take care of a plant and what nutrients are required. It's a complicated process that needs a lot of thought and TLC. We're here to help but we can only help so much.

Here is my grow area... tell me if u think this should do it.... ?

its either this or chopping up a rubbermaid bin. this i like because its def warm n dark n undisturbed area....

I actually have been putting lots of thought into it but i live in the city n space restrictions r an issue. i only had intended to do one plant. well anyway, i got my light set up n all that good stuff.

I have heard some back n forth controversy, should i put the seedlings in the cup then in ziplocks to keep moisture in or should i just place then in the cabinet as such?

  6. that cabinet would be much more efficient if it was rotated vertically:wave:

  7. Hey Chula,
Looking Good, I was in this same place back in dec and now i have two ladies flowering. Check out my journal if you want.

I just put my seeds into soil and they pop up a few days later.

Okie dokie guys so my girls are set up n ready to go...

just wondering if the ones that had sprouted leaves early should get some special attention?

Thank u for all your encouraging words... and subscribe n stay tuned.. ill be needing u! dont get irritated with me, u all had your first grow too at one point.. :smoking:

I didnt poke holes in the bottoms of the cups.. should i have? anything tips for the next few days?

I may not be able to get another cfl in there for a few days cuz i need another lamp. but i have some black light lamps which i can change the bulb on to the long florescent bulbs, if i can find em in day light.. would that work? i have 2? making 3 lights in total?

Oh! I intended to use the LST to help with the size limitation so any pointers on that would be useful. mind u i am also a law school student. im pretty bright lol and i have read a lot of these tutorials but its good when u have people actually speaking to u...its easier to learn i think...

PS- My entire grow journal is fictional :] :D

  9. I agree with the other guy saying to rotate the cab. You want vertical height. It's really hard to grow something with such a restricted vertical limit (and I know you want lots of bud though so it just depends how well you can do LST that will dictate which way to orient the cab).

I would advise poking a hole for drainage, and also keep them moist and don't cover them with the lights on it'll trap hot air. They're fine without covers as long as you keep them moist. That's the whole reason you'd need covers.

Tips: Keep it moist, give them a little light, keep the temps reasonable around room temp. Once they sprout and start the first leaf set, up the lights to as much as you've got. For one plant try to get 100W so 4 bulbs, but if you get 6-8 you'd be way better off (more lights typically leads to denser buds)

Use daylight or 6500K for vegetation and the 2700K for flowering. Remember, at least 4. Try for 6+. Also start looking for larger pots to transplant them in. Once the leaf sets start coming in you need to transfer so it can have a larger container for roots.

    Bentham Thank You Man...

you have been a great help. the hole poking was successful, 3 round holes in triangle shape done with a hot knife tip, not to break the cups and saran wraps gone... i need to get one of those light fixtures that holds more then one bulb, that would make it a lot easier lol. but in the meantime, im on it.

Thanks again... and stick around ;] i think i may need u

  11. Looking good so far...hurry and get your setup complete so you can get those girls in there. 1st grow myself going on. ?Check out my signature as i will be keeping an eye on yours.

  12. hey whats up. im on my first grow to. just make sure you dont over water them. good luck, ill be looking back for some more updates. if you have some time check out my first grow

  13. Yeah a lot of people use a power strip with these http://cache1.bigcartel.com/product_images/2265817/adapter_1.jpg into the powerstrip and these http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo155/29842/ef9c_1.jpg or the 2-way version, or 3-way version plugged into the other sockets. Then all the way down the power outlet strip you've got stuff like that. Or people use those vanity strips. No problem man I'm subscribed and in for the ride. I've only got one grow under my belt but I'll try to help as much as possible.

So as i was reading the lst guide it says once its tall with leaves start clamping it down... i just checked the plants out of anxiety and guess what?

Someones ready to party... sooo... not yet right...?

    Attached Files:

  15. So i checked on the girls today... guess what..

one looks like there may be 2 plants in there but it is standing tall n proud..

then the other 2 cups have nothing going on. the soil felt kinda dry so i wet em a little. i wonder if i implanted the root the wrong way. i noticed i did this to one n i flipped it over n replanted it but no change... any thoughts?

  16. Take the advice from me, worry less about the plant (smoke before you go look at it and just relax and enjoy the time in the "garden" lol). I over worried and did too much stuff. The other guys will take root and if they don't, lets hope that the one that did is a girl. Keep the leaves moist and wait a few more days. Go ahead and put the one into 18/6 light cycle so it can start to grow because its ready since the ribbed leaf set is coming out.

  17. i would try to seperate the 2 for 1 cup before the roots get too long and intertwine . just what i would do. and dont over water, you will get gnats and their larva will eat your roots. i just dealt with that so keep a heads up.

  18. Hey Bentham

I try not to worry but i am just so excited i dont wanna mess up before we start you know? lol The 2 in the 1 cup are already taller then the cup, its amazing how fast its growing, still with only that one light. if these other 2 dont make much improvement, they'll be heading to the farm lol and ill just have the one growing which may be safer anyway.

I intend to get the 4way light socket soon-gotta check home depot.

For right now i have had the light on 24/0. Should i switch to 18/6? Is that better ? I thought flood them with light...

hey.. why do people water cure?

now to go hit the good shit... :smoking:

  19. Okay, so Ive had a question about lighting...

i have 2 2ft long fluorescent tube bulb fixtures that were intended for use with black lights. the black light tubes died n i was thinking of hittin home depot for some more bulbs. i found some cool white ones at a sore closer by but i dont think that would be any good right now? [currently under 24/0 lights-budget set up, only one running cfl at the moment]

otherwise, im lookin for the 4way fixture to plug up a few more cfls...
