Hi GC! I have some indica clones I wanted to get more than one main cola on. I decided to try to FIM it. This will be my first FIM, and I hope all goes well. In this thread you can follow the process from start to finish. The setup: Light source: 400w HPS Medium: Soil, Canna Terra Professional Nutes: Canna Terra Vega Ph(soil): 6.0-6.3 Ph(water): Tapwater Ph 7.0 RH: 20-30% Temp: 26-27 deg C Strain: Purple Palm (pure Indica) Age: 12 days from rooting Ok first I'll start off with some pics of this clones "sister" to show what it looked like before the cut (I didn't take pics before I cut) Now for the FIM one day after the fact Now the only thing left to do is sit back and wait...
Update - 5 days after the cut: I don't know for sure, but I don't think I cut off enough. Anyone? Will be updated with more pics in 2-3 days...
Topping a Plant 1. Locate the very top of your plant and cut through the main stem just below the newest growth. This should be done after the 3rd or 4th leaf set but can be done at any time after the 3rd leaf set. 2. Shows Plant Top cut off and where the 2 new Branches that will form a "Y" in the main stem will grow from. 3. Shows the newly topped plant after 2 days of growth, notice the Y in the Stem Forming. FIMMING A PLANT! Fimming is actually no different that topping, what fimming does is virtually the exact same thing only your leaving part of the new growth. This only takes of part of the new growth and actually topping the very very new growth which is very hard to see. What this ends up doing is making it seem as if your getting 4 new tops right next to eachother when its actually only 2 at the very top (like topping) but since it was cut so closely to the next newest set of fanleaves 2 branches which would have formed there anyways seems to make it look like there is 4 new tops. This is how you go about doing this. 1. Locate the very top of the new growth 2. With a clean sterilized scissors, Fold the fan leafs over and cut approximately 80% of the new growth off the plant. 3. View from the top showing the Cut 4. View of the Cut section after 2 days growth, showing the 4 new growth shoots (branches) Thats IT!!!! you should be well on your way to Topping and Fimming of your plants.
Topping/fimming is really kind of hard to mess up. Some sort of new growth will come in there. Obviously, more than 2 branches from the spot is nice, but if that's what ya get, that's what ya get. You still will increase the bushiness of the plant and create more bud sites.
Update - 9 days after the cut (pics taken 7 days after cut) I really don't know what's going on here. Does anyone know or have suggestions? It will be greatly appreciated. The plant was drooping/wilting because it was dehydrated. I watered it and it was praying like mad after half an hour. It's all good I see two shoots under the cut, but they were coming out from there before I did the cut... I think I see one shoot right in/under the cut, but other than that I can only see what I think is going to be fan leaves. When this has grown out, if I don't get more shoots, should I just top it?
I think that is exactly was is supposed to happen man. Looks like your new growths are coming in closer after the fim. The shoots would come in anyway but with the fim they just come in closer together I believe making it look like there are four new shoots. But yea, it will increase the bushiness of the plant too like dude above me said.
Update - 12 day after the cut (pics taken after 11 days) I don't think I succeeded. So I decided to top it right under where the newest shoots came out. I also topped the other clone. Maybe I'll get more than two tops on the first FIM'd one. We'll see. Here are some pics of #1 Before the cut After the cut And here is #2 Before the cut After the cut So I belive I'll get atleast three tops on clone #1 and two on clone #2. Now we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Fingers crossed.
Damn looks like it was good after the first fim. You gotta give it a long time those site would've formed 4 sites Imo. Great pics tho Best wishes Respect
