ive been smoking for 10+ years now and have found myself in a stable enough place to own a nice bong. i picked up a nice BlueDot beaker from a local smoke shop. they had a very small selection (closest to my house) and offered me a deal i really couldnt refuse. it was $80 but he gave it to me for $65.
i agree with him, you can get a nice ehle glass on glass for near that price, once you go gong ... you never... go back. theres no rhyme i guess, but its true. but its not big deal, obviously you're happy. theres always a step up so its best not to get caught up in always upgrading. and ive seen people pay that much for way shittier bongs, so good on you.
what exactly is glass on glass? ive never been into bongs. i could care less about them but my wife really loves them and i honestly just dont want to hear here whine about smoking joints anymore. its not the best bong in the world but it serves its purpose
Sick man. My first bong was the thinnest, weakest glass ever and it was nothing but problems. Yours looks like itll last years.
You have a rubber stopper instead of glass where the female stem and the male end meet (if i explained it correctly) EDIT: Dont worry though it will still work like a champ :]
oh ok i see. now i know what you mean. like ive said i've never been into bongs at all but im trying to branch out my options. is there a big difference on how it smokes?
Ya mainly because it's not diffused. Not a huge difference, it will chugg instead of fizzle, and be slightly more warm/harsh. But keep in mind some people pay $50 just for a diffused stem, and your entire pipe was $65
so in the long run its not really a big deal. thats why i got one with an ice catcher maybe the next time i buy my wife one ill look for a glass on glass though. if this bong works out and my dog doesnt break it i'll be comfortable enough to get a high end piece for her.
There are some high end pieces that you really have to go out of your way to break, US Tubes 9mm straights come to mind, but they are closer to $300.
- they hold a seal better - easier to clean (dont have to seperate the grommet from the pipe) - safer / easier to pull apart, pulling a downstem out of a grommet piece can be dangerous due to the super tight fit - no need to replace the grommet after it wears out - no need to worry about getting the grommet too hot and melting it - glass on glass joint is more secure - they are standard size and you can use keck clips (k clips) to secure downstems and whatnot - typically they are standard size so its easy to share / plug n play different downstems, bowls and ash catchers I keep my stuff clean religiously and after thoroughly cleaning a grommet piece, I would still taste the grommet when using it afterwards. With a glass on glass piece there is no taste whatsoever, just what you are smoking. For the price / size, thats not too bad, though you will want to upgrade later
thanks for the info buddy. im deff gonna think about upgrading maybe next year. im gonna start concentrating the rest of my effort to get the fuck out of arizona
dude great piece. i didnt know bluedot even made grommet pieces anymore. you might have a treasure. And to everyone getting on him for it not being glass-on-glass, I'd very very much rather have a grommet piece that I KNOW was made in america and is of high quality (bd is known to use high-quality american glass), than have a gong china piece. Oh and OP if you ever need to upgrade, you could do so for about $20, take the whole female piece out of the bong (the piece that dips into the water), measure how long it is from the bottom of the stem to where it begins to taper, and go to your headshop and pick up an 18/14 bushing diffuser of the same length (from bottom of the stem to the bottom of the glass-on-glass), and a cheap bowlpiece. just put your old grommet around the new stem, shove it in the bong, and ta-dah, you're glass-on-glass.
np man, NV has MMJ, something to look into Actually I mis read your price, at $65 that is a totally killer deal! You CAN convert it to a glass on glass on grommet like they are saying above... just be sure to clean it religiously and take it to a headshop if you decide to do that. I've done the conversion and its not too bad. I just wouldnt put something heavy like an ash catcher on a glass on glass on grommet, as the downstem isnt held super secure and might break your tube.
