hey blades. i took my first crack at cannabutter last night, and ive got the pictures to prove it!

(in the past ive used vapor poo to make oil in the crockpot, with less than desireable results. actually, i only used the oil once, and i wasnt sure if it fucked me up or not, so its been sitting in my fridge for almost a year now. i wonder if its still good?)

    anyway

i used just over an ounce of vaped bud, and i mean really vaped bud. i put it thru the vape once on regular heat, then went back and put it thru again on a higher heat.

i used .75 lbs of butter, and several cups of water (i didnt measure.)

like i said, this bud is pretty used up, but i figure if nothing else this can serve as a practice run for when i decide to use fresh bud.

    here's the bud

i filled my pan about half way with water and brought that to a boil. then i dropped in the butter, reduced the heat to medium.

once it was completley melted, i dropped in my cannabis and covered it. i had it simmering on low heat, but in an attempt to speed up the process, i alternated between low and high heat for about an hour.

then i prepared my bowls and cheesecloths. i used tape instead of rubber bands. if i hadnt used so much water, i wouldnt have needed two bowls.. lesson learned.

heres what the mix looked like after about 90 minutes. btw, this REALLY smells

    and 3 hours

some have suggested you extract the mixture from your pan by using a ladle, scooping it out a spoonful at a time. i elected to carefully pour it directly out of the pan, and since this pan doesnt have a pour spout, it got a little messy.

but whats important is that the cheesecloths held up and the butter made it into the bowl. im actually glad i used tape, bc the weight of the mixture might have pulled a rubber band off...and what a mess that would have been. definitely make sure you firmly secure your cheesecloth!

i squeezed the excess butter out of each filter, then consolidated the bowls.

then i stuck it in the fridge. of course ideally you want to leave this overnight, or while youre at work or something, but i wanted my shit asap, so it only stayed in the fridge for about 3 hours.

it looked like this after one hour

    and this after 3

note: the liquid is seeping up through the butter bc i poke a few holes to see how solid it was. bad idea.

its hard to tell here, but the butter ended up with a greenish color! isnt that weird? it was cream colored, and the bud was dark brown. so where did green come from?

at this point i decided to go ahead and extract the solid, then leave the rest overnight in hopes that more would solidfy on top. the solid butter did not come out neatly, it ended up in a big pile which is what you see on the plate. if i would have waited an extra hour, i could have extracted the butter in one solid piece.... another lesson learned.

this morning i checked the rest of the liquid, and it was all still liquid, no butter on top. so basically what you see in the bowl on the right is all waste water

after i seperated the water, i re melted, then resoldified the butter, just to get it in one uniform piece

rather than make baked goods, i decided to do french toast. first i threw some of my cannabutter in the pan.

then threw in my frech toast, and added a little butter on top for good measure.

about halfway through this meal i started laughing for absolutley no reason, for like 5 minutes i couldnt stop. buut i smoked all day yesterday (and the last 100 days or so)and i was really tired by the time i ate this, so results were unclear...

this morning i spread it on some toast. first meal of the day, and hadnt smoke yet. about an hour later i feel pretty chilled out, definitley a mild effect, but not knocked on my ass like i want,

this recipe is so easy! now that ive done it, i feel much more confident in my butter making abilities..and all i had to buy was the cheesecloth, that was only like 3 bucks, plus i have some left over for the next batch. next time im going to throw an oz of reg in there.

  2. Yum! But you probly lost some flavor boiling it for the toast..

  3. Nice. Dont care if this thread is two years old. Gonna make some of that french toast for breakfast with the butter Im making now. Already tried tacos and they were excellent.
