Here's pretty much what my "daily" diet consists of. I went to a nutritionist for it (she's also my personal trainer, sort of), and have been eating like this for a few months. I like it a lot, but the thing is it's pretty expensive... Breakfast: Orange or Grapefruit Oatmeal or Eggs Coffee Cooked lunch: Fish or Chicken or Turkey Sausage Frozen Veggies Brown Rice or Beans Snack: Yogurt Nut Mix First Break: Protein Shake Salad Second Break: Pear Nut Mix And if I'm still hungry when I get home, I'll make some eggs. I have additional protein shakes whenever I go to the gym as well. I pick all organic food, and on average I spend probably $80-100/week on groceries just for myself. On top of that, the protein powder I use is like $70/5lbs. That lasts about 3 months though. Although I can afford all this OK, I also don't get much extra spending room eating/buying like this. The nuts and pears are the real killers I think... organic nuts are like $9-13/lb, and pears are around $2.50/lb, which adds up when I'm eating 7 pears a week. Are there some things that aren't necessary to get "organic" that could save some money? Maybe alternatives to what I'm currently eating that aren't as pricey? Should I look into the local farmers market? Does buying stuff "in season" help costs? Any suggestions appreciated.
Dam, thats barely any food makes me feel nice and american ^_^. Atleast to answer one question.. buying items "in season" does usually make the price lower. You could also instead of just pears try having like grapes, apples, bananas etc. Pretty strict diet though.. Personal belief for me at least, although organic is very healthy, I don't think all the things you get there need to be organic, like yogurt and stuff.. of course I aint the guy to ask about that and I am sure someone will come on here and tell me I am wrong. Just my opinion, and I am cheap, so I usually do not always go organic (its rare..I stick to Jewel etc - if you don't have one of those its just your basic grocery store)
