Hey GrassCity, I would like to welcome you to my first Indoor CFL grow Cabinet! I am very new to the forums and haven't posted much, and figured this would be the best way to do my introduction, if any!
A quick little chunk about myself; I am 23 years old, I live on my own in Canada and have been smoking marijuana for years now, everyday.

Anyways, just thought I would share my first experience growing indoors with you guys and post a couple pictures along the way, and update this thread often as well.  Any opinions, good or bad are very much appreciated. I will love reading all your responses and draw any information out of them that I can, and apply it as GC seems to be a very helpful bunch.

This picture was taken on July 14th, they are maybe a week old and have been looking very healthy. They are just in the bathroom window sill, with a reflective sheet to aid them. The funny part about this whole grow is that I got roughly 20 seeds from a little bud that I had. It was really potent weed (aside from the seeds in the bud). I then placed them all in a little box in betweens two damp paper towels. It was roughly one full day until several of them had tails. I planted them in my houseplants in the living room near the window sill just for kicks, it was only a few days until a good 10 or so started sprouting. I moved them to some small clay pots and figured why not.

At this point it is now July 21, I have made a little grow tent/dome, nothing super serious but just to get the little guys amped up. I have three 23W (100w equiv.) CFL's at this point, and is also what I am using to date, just more. They give out 1500 lumens per bulb, and are brightwhite/daylight for colour as I have read that this colour scheme is best for vegging. I don't want to spend a too too much, and I want to keep it pretty simple. The majority of my set-up is extension cords and power bars linked up, I know not the safest, but everything has been running very cool and smooth. I simply picked up some of those socket attachments at the hardware for an easy "plugnplay" set-up. This tent is just temporary as you will see I am trying to make a full transition to a more stealthy grow cabinet.

This picture is from July 25th, I went away for the long weekend and needed to figure out a way to water the plants well gone for two days. As you can see I rigged up a simple set-up, I used a small submersible pump for 20 bucks, bought a few feet of hose for a buck and set-up a little bucket of water for the pump (plenty for the weekend) and pierced some holes in the hose over top the soil. It was hooked up to a timer (serperate from the timer my lights are running on as well, btw) and set to come on once every morning for one minute, which worked great.

This picture is of my plants currently in the grow tent which is set-up in the bathroom near the window sill. I snuck some sunlight in occasionally up to this point but not much, I know they can grow great without it. It's great near the window as I leave the windows open slightly for fresh air, plus my circulating fan in the room. But it's not so stealthy, and time to switch them over to the cabinet that just happens to be in the bathroom as well. The date of this picture is on August 4th.

This is the grow cabinet I created the past few days. I lined the cabinet with tinfoil and used that tinfoil type tape (usually used for ductwork) for a highly reflective finish. Only the bottom section is pretty well finished as of the time being, which is okay in my opinion. I only wanted to put two plants in it tonight, which are the ones that I believe just may be female, It seems a bit early to tell on the remainder of the plants but the two that I put in seem to smell a lot more than the others and are really bunching up, as if they would flower in the future, mind you i'm no expert, lol. I tucked the extension cords to the sides the best I could, and used those socket connectors I mentioned earlier to position my bulbs within the current of electrical cord madness, unfortunately.

These last images (August, 4th) show me transplanting two of plants (potential females) into larger pots, and them in the first shelf, out of the potential 4 shelves/boxes in my grow cabinet. The cabinet may seem large, but I know these can grow big, fast. Any tips to keeping them an ideal size for my cabinet, starting flowering cycle early, etc? I'd say they are a good five/six inches at the moment. When I transplanted into the small clay pots in their earlier stages, and when I transplanted once again today (into larger plastic) I buried them a little deeper each time to stabilize and shorten the plant up a bit to hopefully promote a bushier plant, but then again, what do I know, literally. This is my first indoor grow. You'll also notice an image of how well the roots developed, almost transplanted too late by the looks of it, but they are very healthy.

The last picture is basically to show the transition and stealthier look and feel of the cabinet. You can see I have it set-up right now to have the cabinet door open a crack, with a fan circulating the bathroom to give air flow into the cabinet, and the tent. I eventually want to switch everything over to the cabinet and utilize the 3 shelves available. I plan on buying these smaller fans, to put individually in each box within the cabinet as well, they run at about $12 dollars a piece. I'd say it'd been about a month now since I tried sprouting the seeds in a box, maybe a little more, and everything seems to be going well. I will post most pictures often and try to make this just as enjoyable for you guys as I am having a lot of fun with it.
Any help is appreciated, I know I should work some sort of ventilation system out eventually but I can't create nothing to permanent, I have a landlord.

  2. Looks good man, I think you may be over watering a bit. Notice the "sad" look your leaves have. U want them up and perky

  3. Thanks Twinn77, I appreciate the advice. Sounds about right because usually when the top of the soil starts to dry up a bit they are looking at there best, then I get a bit nervous and water them. It usually works out to be once in the morning and once at night, just a good little splash inside each pot to say.

The temp inside the box at the moment is around 86F, is this ideal? Also I'm not using any liquid nutrients with my water yet, so far everything has been completely natural.

  4. I'm on my first grow as well! I have ~200 watts of CFL in a dresser which is upstairs in my house. it is almost impossible to keep the temps below 86. from the reading I have done the ideal temp is between 75-85, but as long as you have good ventilation you should be fine being at the upper end. Ive had my temps spike to 91 for a few hours a couple times so my girls have slowed down a little bit. My winter grow is going to go much better because the temps in the house won't be nearly as high.

  5. Thanks for the tips Highlycurious :p
I definitely hear yeah on that one, I have a little temp gauge in my cabinet as well and it gets around the 90s on humid days. I just bought a small fan for $12 and it purs like a kitten. It fits great in the corner blowing towards the base of the plants. They are just softly fluttering and I think it will be great to strengthen them, nothing to serious haha :)

  6. Here are a few updated pictures, plants are looking a lot more perked up and have new growth.
The other plants I have are a little camera shy at the moment as they got a late transplant :p
