Thanks to this site my interest of growing has turned into obsession. My tight budget leaves me with limited supplies for my first attempt. Yes my friends think its silly but why not give it a shot now? Im using an old computer case, wielded an old lava lamp bottom to the roof, and have a 100watt light bulb at the moment. I took these pictures with a cell phone so they arent that great of quality. Any advice at all is wanted whatever it may be... ^_^ The really blury picture is my plant that sprouted. Next time better quality pictures for sure.
Im working on my attic for my growing place. This is just temp.... And its just the light bulb from my garage hahaha
Alright, this is the only other lightbulb I have in my house. Perhaps details on what exact lightbulb is needed is needed.
Alright check it out. New night bulb on it now. fluorescent!! I dont need fans until it can grow above the pot right? lol Seems to me a fan right now is pointless, though I Was wrong with the light bulbs so you never know.
I think a fan is beneficial to cycle the air, and get that little bugger moving around so it has a strong stalk. A strong stalk is important to fight against light strain and keep it upright. What type of bulb is that, what is its temperature rating do you know?
I have a fan right below it that tells the temp. Its been sitting at like 80º. Is that too hot? Seems like the soil gets pretty dry after a few hours... I read that watering too much is bad... how much is too much?
80 is pretty hot. Without extra CO2 (which makes plants more tolerant of light and heat extremes), a plant could suffer at that temperature (I have a strain that curls dramatically at 80 degrees, even with added CO2). Also, without a fan, the natural CO2 levels will deplete very quickly, so this will compound the trouble. As it's in a PC case, why not attach... a PC Fan! So long as you are exhausting air from the case, fresh air wil be naturally drawn in. As has been mentioned, circulating air will make the seedling stronger, too, very important when (if) you get to the budding stage. Another PC fan directed at the seedling would also be good; in a PC case there's plenty of places to bolt one on. Get the power supply fitted back in and go to town! As to watering; "too much" means that the soil is over saturated, i.e. watered whilst still wet from previous watering. This doesn't apply if the soil is completely dried out, and while cannabis will tolerate dryness better that over-watering, you can't let the soil be bone dry for extended periods, or else your plant will die. -mu
Yeah PC fans that I have dont really blow enough air to do anything. So I setup a different fan in there... Gets breeze on the plant better than the cpu ones. Though the tempature wont budge below 80º
Don't take this the wrong way PunkRazza, but I think you should build a new setup, because to be blunt this one isn't going to work. Spend some time looking at other people's designs, and look up the requirements for a grow chamber, spatial dimensions and environmental control etc. If you plan it well and you will reap the benefits, the way you are going you aren't going to be successful. There are loads of really experienced growers here, you can learn a lot from them.
Yeah, no offence taken. I look like an idiot with a setup like this, though its not like I expected to get anything serious. I'll return with my attic setup when its done.
hey man, mine are a few days older than yours and looked just like that. keep a fan blowing on it though. its what i do, because i asked the same question. the fan will keep the plant wiggling as to increase the stems strength. worked on mine.
Just a small update, Plant seems fine and growing well for the setup. not the most effective. notice the ends of the bigger leaves are darker than the rest. sorta change shape too
