This is long. There's this kid I know at my high school that is easily the best violinist I know. Like, he has an ungodly amount of talent. But, he's a dick. As an example, he gets super defensive about his playing ability. Today on the bus, us and some people we both know were talking, and he was like "play the violin". I said no because we were on the bus and my violin ain't cheap. Then we were joking around and got to talking about if we did a contest or somethin, and he said "Yeah, you'd kick my ass, right?" I told him if it was fiddle music I'd kick his ass, which even though he's the better player, fiddlings my thing and I could wipe the floor with him. He gets defensive and is like "no you wouldn't what are you talking about?" I told that was better than him at this one song we both know, and he knows I'm better at, and he said "yeah right". What's driving me nuts is this kid can't accept that I anyone could be better than him at violin. The kid's problem, in my opinion, is that he knows how good he is. none of the other players I know that are around as good as he is, and some are better on occasion, act like this. He just can't accept that people could be better than him, and its got me a little pissed. Just thought I'd share. Peace

I suppose this is one of those things you have to be there to decide if hes a dick or not. I can imagine his talent getting to his head and all but at the end of the day YOU know that you can play this song better than him (or whatever you can do better) and thats all that matters. Just let him go be bigheaded by himself whilst you get better then completely outclass him in a violin competition or something... Ook I think I got abit carried away at the end there
all he did was say he was better than him at a specific part of playing the instrument. the dude is def a dick and an assclown. but overall this was way TL;DR..
I'd be like playing the violin don't get you no pussy. Then if he insisted on an instrumental battle I'd turn my amp up so no one could hear him anyways.
To be a musician in the real world, you can't let trivial shit like this bother you. Maybe when your out there trying to make a living at it you won't let this type of stuff get to your head. I don't even know what to say this post. I think I need an advil after reading it, though.
No, that's not even the worst kind. The worst kind are when they are mediocre at what they do, but they are wielding a les paul and they think it makes them the next Eric Clapton. My boyfriend had a guitarist like this in his band and man did I fucking hate that kid. He always did solos that lasted forever. Like, dude, we'd like to hear the rest of the band for a bit if you don't mind. He acted like big shit because mommy and daddy bought him a les paul.... awwww, now have them buy you talent.
