Music for tripping

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by Jonn151, Jan 31, 2011.

  1. Hey all, i'm new here
For a while now i've been smoking up :smoke: and chilling to some intense music, and end up tripping my face off
Anyone else here love doing this? Name me some bands to check out
    I love:
Porcupine Tree (anything by Steven Wilson)
    Pink Floyd
    Massive Attack
    Mastodon
    Tool
    King Crimson
    Sphongle
    Infected Mushroom
    Yes
    Opeth
    Gojira
    Isis
    Miles Davis
    Deftones
    Led Zeppelin
    Karnivool
    Sigur Ros/Jonsi
    Oceansize
    Radiohead
Camel (are so so so sick)
    Meshuggah
    The Mars Volta

These are the first bands that come to my head, if you have recs please go for more underground/unknown bands

  2. are we talknig about actual tripping or the classic i'm new to smoking "i'm tripping ballz dude" kinda tripping?

  3. I'm assuming that you're referring about ganja tripping I suggest listening to MONO, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mogwai & Explosions In The Sky.
If when you check them out and you're not digging it, let me know and I can direct you in a different route :D

  4. I know those bands already, i like them all, love Mono and Godspeed actually
When i say trip, i mean fall deep into the caverns of my mind while intensely listening to deep music, especially with bands like Floyd and Porcupine Tree, my mind starts to function on a whole new level, once i was listening to a heavier song by Porcupine Tree and i physically felt like i was in a tornado, it was like torture but still so amazing
I find music really intense when im smoking weed, im not referring to any other drugs...

  5. that would be meditating.. i would say go to

    last.fm

and search for artists you like and see what it recommends.

  6. dude sounds like your into soundscapes, music that feels like its taking you places physically and mentally.. look some up, espicially instrumentals

  7. Thanks for the recommendations - I need to look some of those up! Here's mine: Lake Trout - Not Them You; Tame Impala - Inner Speaker; Arcade Fire - The Suburbs; the Byrds - notorious byrd brothers; Flaming Lips - Yoshimi battles the pink robots; MGMT - congratulations. Give em a go and let me know if they work!

    Try these

    Bathory:
    One Rode To Asa Bay
    Mother Earth Father Thunder

    Finntroll:
Visor Om Slutet play the whole album from beginning to end you'll love it :D
    Intro -Hatertop
    Den Svarte Älgens Blod
Any instrumental song by them is godly :smoke:

    Apocalyptica:
Any song from the Cult album, my personal faves are Romance, Beyond Time, Coma

    Andy McKee:
Idk too many of his songs, but for sure check him out. Especially Gates of Gnomeria. Related vids should show some pretty cool guitarists as well

    Dozer:
    Any song

    Saturnus:
Check out their album 'My paradise belongs to you' it's full of great songs
    Specifically,
As we dance in the paths of fire and solace
    Lament for This Treacherous World

A random youtube vid i stumbled upon, and was fucking mesmerized
    New Age-Merlins Magic-Chakra Meditation Music-Heart Of Reiki

London Electricity - Just one second(Apex Remix)

    Push:
    Strange World
    Universal Nation **Headphones recommended

    White Stripes:
Any song that's not too distorted is amazing because of its raw quality, it really captures the essence of the music
Truth doesn't make a noise is a great example :)

There's a bunch more, you just need to look hard into the roots of music :)

Edit: Since I see that you like metal, look into european folk metal bands some have really astounding tracks

    For starters:
    Ensiferum
    Equilibrium
    Korpiklaani
    Eluveitie
    Elvenking
    Stratovarius
    Wintersun
and Im sure you will find the rest yourself :D good luck on your future journeys

  9. I highly recommend Black Sun Ensemble's self entitled album and Mariani's Perpetuum Mobile... not just because they're my favorite.

  10. If you like being taken away by the music, trance is a pretty good choice too. Nitrous Oxide is one of my favorite producers, you should check him out.

  11. Psychedelic dub:

That one is from the album 'The Guvna Dub Sessions' by 'John Brown's body'

And 10 Ft. Ganja Plant also has nice psychedelic dub.. And just fantastic reggae for when you're tripping (especially on shroomies:D)!

I know if I was tripping this would take me to another place!
But I wouldn't call it "music to trip to"
For that I would reach into my magic bag of tricks for some Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Dj Baby Anne, Jeckyll & Hyde, Dynamix II, Crystal Method, Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, Chopped and Screwed rap like Oxycontin by Lil Wyte
