Music Effect Plant Growth?

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by ezbake, Nov 6, 2006.

  1. A friend mentioned to me not long ago playing rock music will help your plants grow faster.

I got interested and did a little research, it turns out rock music will kill a plant but classical music will actually grow a plant faster.

One website claimed in a test, the plants in rock music leaned AWAY from the speaker.
And the plants in classical music leaned TOWARDS the speaker.
    Pretty interesting

Just wondering if anyone out there has tried this with mary jane :-D

  2. Come on people, post your comments, do a little research.

Aren't we all looking for ways to grow bigger, better buds? And faster?
Well the rumor is music does help... maybe we could get some people doing experiments on good ol' MJ in here!

  3. MythBusters concluded in their experiemnts that ANY music will make plants grow bigger compared to the control of no music. Can't really hurt so I say go for it

  4. thats pretty cool actually, does it have to be a certain volume? if it was soft classical playing, that would be sweet.

Kinda gets you thinkin, are my plants actually alive to the point of bieng capable of listening and enjoying music.

Though it would make it sad as hell, if they listened to music and enjoyed life, just to be cut down and smoked. hahaha

    Cool thread

  5. philosophisizing about plant life?
    3 things:

bliz-nati, plants cannot listen to/"enjoy" music

I'm no pro in the field but i find the results of that experiment VERY hard to believe (that plants grow noticably bigger when having music played to them)

even if it was true, i doubt the cost of running a music player continously would be a cost worthy way of increasing your bud size

  6. lol Well they don't really "listen" or "enjoy"... it has something to do with the rhythm and their cell's if you research it, it tells you.

I will have to find that mythbusters episode.

  7. i've heard of this. i always assumed it was due to the vibrations and rhythms. wouldnt hurt to run your own expirement you know? one plant w/ music, two w/o. one of those w/o would be the control. or you could even elaborate on it

  8. A few websites I found all said that ROCK music makes the plants lean AWAY from the speaker and eventually die, and they said that CLASSICAL music makes the plants lean towards the speaker and grow better.

One experiment had a control. Rock. Classical. Silence. The classical was the best out of the three.

Mythbusters came to the conclusion that any type of music or sound, even talking to the plant, will help it. They said that the plants exposed to hard rock were the best.

So who knows... 3+ internet sites I found said classical is preferred over rock.
Mythbusters says rock, classical, whatever is good, but rock is the best.
    So what is it?

I'd go with classical because it's the majority and not to take any chances.
I can't experiment though :( Anyone out there can? Or has? Post!

  9. Talking to it might have another benefit, the Co2 from your breath. I've seen school experiments with plants growing better with music.

  10. yeah, i've always been told to talk to your plants because of the C02 and the vibrations cause stimulations of some sort.... i dunno, maybe im weird, but sitting down to a good convo with my beauties is always fun

  11. Yeah mythbusters experiment proved talking helps and ive also heard that, the co2 from talking as well as the sound.

My idea, if i ever get to grow, is to put a speaker above my light hehe. Because the plants are supposed to grow towards the sound :) and faster when they hear music so maybe that'll make em grow even faster lol? we'll see

  12. btw- leaving a glass of water to evaporate in ur grow room helps a lot ofr co2 ,etc,etc...

  13. I heard any music is good the base and vibrations stimulate the roots and shake the stem n shit like that. haha
and I heard talking to your plants does put some more co2 there its wont be enough to do anything. theres a thread on here somewhere about making your own co2 generator.
oh and one more the cup of water thing works if you fave a small grow room i use it to keep it humid in my veg box

  14. im wanting to try and conduxt an experiment with this subject

i have my little sproutling named Mari who today i just set up my 4 speaker system to play 103.9 alternative rock right next to her while shes getting sunlight[im hoping shes a girl ^___^]

now ive been searching everywhere on good solid material to use to say that listening to rock will hurt your plant while classical will help it

im almost inclined to say that it might affect it if infact the music is so loud the plant is moved yes this might hurt, but also ive seen in this same thread that vibrations help stimulate the plants structure

so over the next good little while iam going to continue with my 1st new sproutling and hope she grows big and strong! lol i will update over the next few days about my progress

    [circumstances of growing]:
    indoor growing with outdoor light
city water let sit for at least 18 hours before use
a large room with a A/C unit on fan to keep moving air and a floor fan to circulate that air
the soil of this plant is a generic potting soil mix

if you have any comments or maybe even advice for a new grower and a vet smoker contact me in someway

    =]

    thanks!

  15. so today ive seen that while listening to 103.9 alternative rock for about 7 hours then 92.9[they play anything] i had another sproutling form up!

yes so now there are two subjects mari my sproutling i was tracking before has been growing very nicely her leaves are starting to bloom out slowly more and more everyday

i always have my window open and as much as i can i have my wall A/C unit on vent to circulate clean air through the room

sorry im not recording data exactly as i should im just giving updates and my buddy came over and had a blunt for this morning so yeah

    :smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking::smoking:

mari and the new sproutling are currently sitting on a windowsill in the sunlight with 5 speakers softly playing 103.9 alternative rock and tomarrow if i remember i will try and update again! :D

  16. I'll have to test out Master P on my blueberry

  17. heheh, i'am also growing my plant in about the same way,but im using classical Masterpieces,(there's a channel on my t.v that plays it 24/7) and its been growing pretty fast, will in my opinon. but this is my 2 time growing and the frist time did even get pass the sporuting phase xD. i'll try to keep an update, but im really shitty at using forums.

o and btw, the plant im growing is ,well,i really dont know, but im taking an educated guess
and saying its probly a ruderalis/sativa,i got the seeds from a Dub sack of stress,it looks like kush, with out the smell and crystals, but light green buds with a good amout of hairs.the high is pretty nice, kinda like a drunkin feeling, but not going to cause u to do dumb shit,or make the room spin.
