Hmm, Just read a large part of that. I think i may test the sensory overload with music, just to experience the extreme trance like state if I manage to get it working. Its bookmarked so I can go check it out later. Thanks for the link! Rep.
i have taken out parts that i think are important for all you lazy readers The Magickal/Meditative/Trance Uses of Music Written by Pazuzu October 12-ish, 1996 (C) Copyright 1996 Amphigory Distribution Rights Granted to Sentence ov Desire Introduction The subject of using music during magickal workings or during meditation is a very old one. Almost every ancient magickal tradition has some use of music in it - usually ritual drumming. In order to perform magick, one must enter altered states of consciousness. This can be done in many ways: drugs, sensory deprivation, force of will, sex, the list goes on. What about music? Music has a very powerful ability to effect one's mood. Certain music can almost force your mind to enter altered states of consciousness - sometimes by design, sometimes by chance. Music is a Drug Before we get started, I want to issue a caution. And I'm not kidding here. Music *is* very definitely a drug. It *can*, and very often *will*, cause your mind to, sometimes consciously, sometimes, UNconsciously, enter altered states. The Basics Music which matches the mood of the working is chosen, and played at sufficiently high volume to cause the desired mood enhancement. Another good use of music is during meditation or gnosis/trance practice. The state of not-thinking is an important one to be able to achieve. You can play a certain CD or even a single song repeatedly at EXTREMELY high volumes (use headphones if you have to) so that you literally can't hear yourself think. Eventually (and it won't take long at all), you'll enter some type of trance due to the sensory overload/deprivation the music is causing. This type of practice I'm talking about is both sensory overload _and_ sensory deprivation at the same time. Ideally, this should be done in a pitch black room with the temperature controlled to that "no-temperature" level where you feel neither warm nor cold, the temperature otherwise known as "room temperature". You should not be burning any incense during this practice as you don't want to overload _two_ senses at once -- it would defeat the (desired) deprivation side effect. There is also the other side to this: playing the music at very low volumes, so low that you really have to concentrate to hear it. This will eventually cause you to blank out and go into trance the same way using the loud volume will. Of course, if you want to go for a total sensory blowout, that is easy enough. To the above obscenely loud music, add the following. First, make sure the room is completely pitch black as above. However, now we are going to add 2 or more very bright strobe lights. Get the kind where you can adjust the blink rate, and set them all to wildly different blink rates. Also burn a huge (and I mean _huge_ quantity) of some very strong incense, such as genuine Nag Champa. Using either the heater or the air conditioner, make the room extremely uncomfortable. To complete the insanity, either masturbate or have sex (if you can find anyone insane enough to join you in your sensory blowout) during the whole thing. See where it leads you... And don't even think of mixing psychedelic drugs with the above technique. To do so would be utter folly and would almost certainly prove to be your undoing. edit: heatblitz - gratz on 2000
I think I know what they are talking about.. I always lie down and listen to music extremely loud on the headphones, usually with the lights off... I get a really weird rush and a great feeling.. Gotta love trance..
its most definately is a drug. when i get all my lights and freaky stuff going on, and just jam freestyle for half an hour, it gets me high, high on the tunes! i love it, best feeling in the world. making music is a powerful drug.
still too long to read. don't blame me - weed made me this lazy. unless it's something i'm interested in i won't use more effort than i have to...

holy crap i can agree to all that.. stuff.. I play guitar very.. VERY loudly and the other day while high i decided to play along to Lateralus, once again very very loudly... and about 2 min into the gruge my whole body vibrated along with the music and i felt like i was going to pass out (i play standing up) so i freaked out and turned off the music/guitar and layed down.. now i kinda understand why.
