Multiple Sclerosis/Hemp Oil

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by herbalZen, Sep 9, 2012.

  1. My mother has MS and she's slowly breaking down to marijuana being better for her than the insane drugs they give her, but she isn't too fond of the marijuana taste. Does anyone know if Hemp Oil would be just as effective as smoking the plant for a MS patient?

Some people new to the list get confused by the term Hemp Oil. To be sure the oils resins and waxes washed off the leaves & stems of the plant using any one of a number of solvents can properly be called Hemp Oil. But lots of people selling Hemp Seed Oil just call it hemp oil too and some patients get quite torqued off about it because they buy it not knowing that there are two different oils being removed from essentially the same plant. Both are good for MS but for different reasons. I use the term Hash Oil instead of Hemp Oil to be sure we are talking about +/- the same thing. There are a LOT of ways to make Hash Oil so the term still covers lots of ground. If they sell it at the local health food store or on the internet to any munchkin that wanders past it is Hemp Seed Oil, and that is still very good for her but not the part of the medicine she is getting by smoking MMJ.

Hemp Seed Oil is good for Omega-3, 6 & 9 fatty acids but it is kind of expensive. Any good balanced source of Omega fats is fine. Omega fats build neuroreceptors and regulate neurotransmitters. Any patient using any form of Hash Oil regularly should be supplementing with Omegas daily. It reduces tolerance to the rest of the medicine so you get more mileage from what you take and may also help reduce the potential for overdose. Just because you can't take enough to kill your self does not mean you can't take enough to make your self uncomfortably sick for a while.

Cannabinoids run the immune system and can shut down or slow down the progression of the disease, maybe even reverse some of the damage done if she is early in the disease. Try topical ointment made from Hash Oil applied along the major nerve pathways & spine and where there is pain & spasticity.

If she wants something edible try a tincture. They also put hash oil into lots of other edible oils Incl. Hemp Seed Oil, Coconut Oil and Olive Oil for use in cooking salad dressings etc....

These are my recipes there are lots of others on the board:

    Hope this helps

  4. I should have said Cannabinoids run the immune system instead of Hash Oil above.

Mine has 6. I was going for cheep. The difference is how fast you can spin down your emulsion or hydrosol. If you download the PDF version it has pictures. Before you invest you should look at other peoples recipes too. Mine is a lot of work there are cheaper ways that are easier.

Citric Acid extraction is on my to do list...

Variations on the method PaulKemp420 describes are what most people do.

I just think it tastes crummy. It does work. If your making a topical ointment it is just fine for that use.

The last thing we didn't talk about is fresh juiced Cannabis. You almost have to do a grow to do this but the patient can take 100's of times more Cannabinoids without getting high. Seems like that was an important point for the patient you are treating, the not getting high part. The basics of it is running fresh hemp through a juicer capable of juicing Wheat Grass. recommendations very from enough fresh leaf to make a large fat cigarette 3 times a day to juicing a 30 day old plant every day and dividing the output into 3 or 4 portions as one days dose. I add Oregano, Rosemary, & Sweet Basil to my juice when I can make it to boost ß-caryophyllene content. Some times I will also add a half a lemon or a small lime peel and all for the same reason + d-limonene content.

I also add other fresh veg. or fruit after my medicinals to fill an 8 oz. glass to improve flavor and insure that most of the medicine is out of my juicer and in my glass. Makes my body feel as good as smoking dope made my head feel back in the 70's & 80's when I was recreational.

I updated my topical ointment recipe in my blog yesterday. Noticed it had gotten way out of date. Making a topical ointment with fresh raw Kief instead of cooked Hash Oil will minimize the buzz and could be the best way to achieve patient compliance. Be careful at least some of the Kief in any batch will be psychoactive. It happens as the resins on the glands loose moisture in the drying process. People who like the buzz will want it fully activated people who don't like the buzz will be cranky if you start them on too strong of an ointment or to large of a dose. It is better to start out too weak and turn the dose up as tolerated.

here is the link again to make it easy.
