  1. So... I take a centrum A-Z vitamin about every two or three days. Anyone else on here take vitamins or supplements? Do you think they work, or actually make you any healthier? To be honest, I feel no diffrent when taking them. And who is to say what is actually in them? They could be expensive sugar pills for all I know:smoking:

those are the vitamins I take...very nice

the program is hella expensive, 500 smackers

  4. I take regular multi vitamins....

I don't know if they are beneficial- but so far they haven't hurt as far as I'm concerned.

I think the main thingto be concerned about is if you meet the 'daily values needed'..... Lets face it- a lot of people don't do shit... no exercise, they don't have a physical job, etc. Hell- they probably don't even burn the 2000 calories thats reccomended....

Those are the people IMO who probably don't need a multi vitamin- because their bodies are not using the vitamins/minerals anyways......

  5. haha i no right it says it covers like 100 percent of the daily value of a lot of vitamins, but im sure that cant be 100 percent true, its not like you can live on them. my mom used to always tell me it just helps supplement whatever vitamins u dont get from the actual source, but shes no vitamin doctor nor i am
so i wonder as well as to what they actually do

  6. i take multi vitamins cause the doctor told me they were supposed to be the cure to some heart condition i have. hope it works

  7. Under the orders of my doctor, I take a multivitamin, and then B12, iron and calcium supplements.

  8. Just wanted to get a little more feedback on this thread. I'm doing some research for a health class, the subject being multi-vitamins. So do you guys generally trust that whatever the bottle says is actually in the pill. If so, how come some bottles of vitamins are 5 bucks, and some can be 100 bucks? Say you take a pill a day for a week, then dont take them for a week. Would you be able to notice any diffrence in how you feel?

  9. ^ It depends on what you eat. If you eat a variety of fruits and veggies you should be OK vitamin wise. Besides vitamins, fruits and veggies have phytonutrients that are good for you... anthocyanidins in blueberries have become popular recently. Scientists are identifying new phytonutrients everyday.

Some multivitamins are more expensive than other's because they're marketed more intensively. Other's are more expensive because they simply have better ingredients with higher bioavailability. In higher quality supplements the process in which the ingredients are put into the pill costs more money but ultimately leads to higher bioavailability.

Fish Oil comes to mind. My professor told the class that we should be wary of Fish Oil that is not made with Vitamin E...otherwise the fatty acid bonds will oxidize too fast to provide any real benefits.

There's also a debate between synthetic Vitamin E and the natural form, which is supposed to be better.

I'm not an expert on any of this; I just took a few classes and I read articles on lef.org and the imminst.org website from time to time. If you're interested in multivitamins and supplements you should check out the imminst.org forums:
    http://imminst.org/forum/
Be critical of what you read, though. A lot of those posters are over the top in my opinion with all the drugs and supplements. I tend to be conservative with my supplements: I take 1-3 Ortho Core multi vitamins a day (what most people on imminst.org take) depending on how many fruits/veggies I ate and I pop 1-2 fish oil capsules a day. There's also a pomegranate/blueberry extract that I use to take but that shits expensive.

I highly doubt you would be able to feel any difference between taking a multi and not taking a multi, unless you're severely deficient in a certain vitamin. However, I've read studies about how fish oil lowers marks of depression in subjects as well as depression meds do...but it's not a vitamin. You would also probably feel a difference with certain drugs and nootropics right away, but then again, they're not vitamins.
