Hey guys, so around my town we live near a huge river which freezes over during winter and he have ice races. Well we all know the risk with this. During last few weeks of winter my buddy bought a truck and 4 days later it fell through the ice and was stuck for about 14 hours before the crew got it out. He is now selling it for 500$ total (it's a 2003 5.3 vortec Silverado). I just want myself a new motor to build. Now this is the problem I have. I can easily take the motor/transmission out and drain it new. But a block that was soaked this long would it even be worth building up? Or will it just create complications down the line? Was it running when it sank? How long has it been sitting now? Chances are it can still be rebuilt, I had an old ford that was full of water and the block itself was still solid but the piston rings and bearings were rusted right out.
It was running fine before it sank, had around 240k and I believe it's only been there for about 3 months now, but with a stroker kit Pistons etc would be included. I'm just concerned about the pcm and block itself Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I wouldn't Nothing but trouble with all the things already wrong and that could go wrong even after you fix it, that is if it can be fixed. If it went down running the engine most likely hydrolocked and bent the shit out of the internals
i would gather that your friend never drained any water from the motor or tranny since in sunk correct
I have seen engines save after going under but they need to be dismantled as soon as they come out of the water Air is what kills them at this point. Once out of water they should be dumped into a barrel of oil until you can dismantle and rebuild Dont bother Really
