    Specially if they got $2.5(for surviving a week) in their pocket and there is literally no "humidity dome" out there to buy :D

    What do you use a Humidity dome for?

    Providing enough moisture(humidity) for the cuttings/clones which doesn't have a root system(yet) and can't absorb any water from the medium, until they establish one.

    And that setup seems to be working. Growers on a budget :)

    You eventually will ;)
    Yeah, you may try another method or simply achieving the same by raising the RH of you growing area.

    Clones provide a way for you to keep producing more plants without paying for and waiting to germinate more seeds.
