More Algae Problems... Nutes Maybe???

  1. Ok so if youve been following you know that ive been plagued by brown algae(diatoms). I switched my aluminum foil buckets to solid black(now totally lightproof), black airline tubing the whole works. I tested the buckets by putting a lightbulb inside to see where light was visible. THe only place was where the hydroton is. So i ordered rootguards to cover that and hopefully minimize the light as much as possible. Anything else i should do?

I also made some changes to the nutes. THis is more for the pros out there i think but does organics really lead to more algae in reservoirs? Im using GH nutes, the full "simple" line and im more and more thinking that these have helped with my problem. I cut out the florablend and the growth of the algae slowed alot and im thinking that floralicious may as well be aiding the algae... if it helps beneficial microbes what would stop it from helping algae bacteria? Im thinking of nixing the floralicious as well and sticking to solely chemical ferts. good idea or bad? ive tried to research this but not alot out there... seems like something youd learn from experience. Are products like floralicious even useful though if you use algaecides, h2o2? since it limits microbe growth and all... dont they kinda counter each other? Im going to add physan 20 to the reservoirs to kill the algae and save the plants. Can i just run it in the water all the time as a preventative? or will it damage the plants? Any info on any of these topics is appreciated. i realize its kind of a lot but anything any of you guys know would really help me atleast make some better guesses as to what im doing lol. although i know theres not much out there on algae besides "sterilize your buckets and lightproof" im trying to learn what i can. THanks!:smoking:
