  1. Well Blades, after debating whether or not I should post this, I've finally cracked. This may be a long and rambling post, but I hope you'll all listen to what I have to say as this is an important/touchy subject to me. I hope I'm in the right section for this...

My mom is the smartest person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She is a loving woman who would do anything for me or my sisters. She has always been there for me through the good times and bad and has sacrificed so much to get me where I am today. No matter how many times I've fucked up, no matter how many times we've fought, she has never given up on me. Long story short, my mom kicks ass.

I just got home for spring break last night and today I couldn't help but notice just how tired and frail my mom looked. After seeing multiple signs of being something wrong, I finally confronted her while driving in the car today. At first she was reluctant to tell me as I am the youngest in my family, but I finally got her to crack a little bit. Long story short, she has been receiving treatments and has been on medication for her skin cancer. I've known since I was growing up that she always had minor skin cancer problems, so normally I wouldn't worry too much, but as soon as I heard the term "second opinion", warning signs began to go off in my head. Apparently the cancer has spread from her face to her neck and shoulders and the medication the doctors have my mom on is taking its toll. She has lost about 12 pounds in the past month, hasn't been sleeping, and has nearly no appetite. She told me that she is probably receiving toxic levels of the stuff. For a woman who is about 5'3, and 100 pounds soaking wet to begin with, this obviously isn't very good. The part that scared me most is that the skin cancer is the "least of her worries right now" and makes me wonder if there is something even bigger going on right now. It breaks my heart because I can see that she is doing all she can to hold it all together.

Massachusetts recently became a medicalized state, and a dispensary is opening just 10 minutes away from my house. If worse comes to worse, my mom could get her medical card. The only thing that worries me is that as a former nurse and college RA, she is completely against marijuana. In high school, I was subject to monthly drug tests after getting caught smoking by her and it almost destroyed our relationship completely. My fear is that in a worse case scenario, she still won't look at medical cannabis as an option.

If things get worse, how would you guys recommend I present the idea to her? I refuse to stand by and watch her suffer like this.

TL;DR: My mom has skin cancer and lives in a medicalized state yet opposes marijuana use. The cancer has progressed and she is waiting on test results. The medicine she is currently on is really fucking with her body (lost weight, insomnia, extreme fatigue). How do I present the idea of medical cannabis to her?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, and I apologize that this post is long as heck!

  2. The Sanjay Gupta specials are amazing and extremely informative, that may be a good place to start.  Show her there are other ways of using cannabis as a medicine, pills, edibles, vape, etc.  I feel most people who say cannabis is bad for you are always thinking of just smoking a joint, which obviously inhaling any kind of smoke is not good for the lungs.

  3. -if she is opposed to smoking it, get the marijuana in pill form

-try to convince her to start using marijuana (debunk any misunderstandings)

-see you can get your mom to setup an appointment with a medical doctor to explain the benefits for using marijuana. (sometimes adults want to here the answers from other adults)

  4. First off, I want to say how happy I am that you hold your mother so close, and with so much respect. It's a rare thing these days.
As for smoking it, there are ( as I'm sure you're aware) many other forms of ingestion that.
If I was in your situation, I would just bring it up in a casual conversation.. Say you seen a program on tv or a pamphlet in a doctors office, and insist that she, to the very least, talk with her doctor(s) about it's benefits. If she argues, explain to her that there are ways to use it that wont alter her state of mind.

My grandfather has four different types of cancer right now, including bone, lymph node, and an ~7x7 mass in his kidney. All four are terminal. He was, according to doctors, supposed to pass in September, but with his treatments coupled with a few different ways of ingesting marijuana ( i.e. hemp oils and so on) he's still alive and shocking doctors. He consulted his doctor first( which is why I encourage it incase there is an off chance it would react poorly). All his doctors and specialists agreed that it was a good idea to use cannabis .. And he's still here and I couldn't be more thankful.

    Good luck!

  5. I checked out some videos last night and all I have to say is damn! Gupta seems like a really smart and well spoken guy. Just started watching the "Weed" special, can't wait to see what I could learn from the video and possibly pass on to my mom

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the process of getting a medical card. Is it recommended to see a specific, "marjiuana friendly" physician?

Dang, thanks for the love! My mom always taught me growing up to "treat women like gold, and worship the ground your mother walks on" When I was younger I thought it was a load of crap but I've grown to respect it.

That's awesome to hear about your grandfather, I can only imagine all the different types of medication regimens and treatments he has been through. Last night I was actually watching short news stories about grandparents who are using medical cannabis. It's awesome to see that even elderly people are able to treat their conditions and make their lives a little bit easier. Plus, seeing an 80+ year old woman spark up a fatass joint never gets old!

  6. Ask Storm Crow aka Granny for help. .http://forum.grasscity.com/user/105249-storm-crow/ pm her and give her a link to this thread. That way everybody can learn. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum, but she has wisdom. She may even find her way here on her own. That is what she does.
And good looking out for your moms man.. RESPECT!!

  7. I think the treatement for skin cancer would be direct application of very highly concentrated oil on the cancerous sites. No smoking, no getting high, very different than the stoner scene that your mom probably associates with weed. Don't give up hope. My mom is 90 years old and for most of her life has held the same sort of views as your mom. I have recently started treating her with Cannabis for a varietiy of age related issues much to her satisfaction.

  8. Sorry to hear about your mom. I can relate to you as my family is going through something similar with my mother. Right now, Rick Simpson Hemp Oil (RSO) is what has my interest. YouTube Rick Simpsons Hemp Oil. Its the one about 58 minutes long. I am sure I remember a part of it where someone spoke about applying it directly to the skin and it having positive effects. Best of luck to you and your mother.

I don't think it matters, who the physician is. Just let them know your mother's condition and ask if they can recommend your mother a prescription for marijuana.

Mom is a former nurse? :yay:   I won't have to break this down for her! For an easy start, get her taking Omega 3!  This will be easy, especially after you show her these-

Israeli 'cancer shift' over heart disease mortality may be led by greater risk in women with high intake of n-6 fatty acids.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17923822

What you won't be telling her (not right off, anyway) is that Omega 3 is absolutely needed to make the CB1 receptors (and likely other related receptors). THC uses them to tell cancer cells to die by committing "apoptosis" or "autophagy" (2 methods of cell suicide)!

You need her to go through her kitchen and check out her cooking oils! Omega 6 should be avoided- we get WAY too much of it in the average diet. She needs the Omega 3s in her diet, not Omega 6!

    .
Using Omega 3 will help her own endocannabinoid system fight the cancer better!  Gosh, I just thought, even though she was a nurse, she may not know about the endocannabinoid system!   It was only discovered in the 1980s!  You can learn about it in these-

Honokiol and magnolol are from the magnolia tree and has been used for centuries as a Chinese medicine. Lately, they have been found to affect the CB2 (NO HIGH, just healing) receptors!  You can find honokiol and magnolol online, and they are 100% legal in all states. Even Puritan's Pride vitamins has started carrying a (weak) pill with them in it. Using honokil and magnolol are a "half a loaf" solution - they don't activate the CB1 (high and healing) receptors. But they are better than nothing!
