Mom Has Trouble Putting On Weight. Please Advise.

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by phishinthegorge, May 1, 2014.

  1. My mom has had one problem after another. She has lung issues which I always think she will have.
But over the last four years she has had a lot of trouble keeping on weight. And I'm sure the meds she takes isn't helping at all. She currently weighs ninety pounds and her lack of keeping weight on I'm sure is effecting her health. It's like a vicious cycle.

Has anyone ever dealt with using edibles to increase a patients appetite. We do live in Ohio which does not have mmj. As far as I'm concerned that's meaningless to me. Her health is far more important.

I'm sure the doctor's will be against it.

Has anybody had experience with people using it to gain weight? It would probably need to be edible due to her lung issues. Also I was wondering on dosage considering she has never used it before and is extremely lightweight.

old appreciate some friendly advice on this. Thanks for reading.

  2. I mean you can always try. LOW doses. Indica Strains. Vaporizer, or edibles.

  3. So India strains tend to be better for increasing appetite? I thought about the vape, but I'm not sure if she would be comfortable with that. That's why I was leaning more towards edible.

Is there a difference in the effects on appetite between edible and vape?

  4. An edible made with a good indica or indica-dominant hybrid should help increase her appetite. Edibles work as well as vaping for appetite.

I don't really know too much about edibles, but there's an edibles section here on grasscity. I'm sure someone would be able to point you in the right direction there. I mean I just smoke and it helps my appetite quite a bit so I think your mom could benefit greatly from some edibles. Good luck and I hope she puts on some weight! You and your mom stay strong!

  6. She should just eat a ton of carbohydrates and whole milk.

  7. i dont know if you have experience with tinctures but that would be the best method to go about this. a volcano could be a good choice but i have no idea how her lungs are.

Has she been tested for Celiac, which is an intolerance to gluten?  Untreated Celiac can make a person very thin and sick from lack of nutrients, and the appetite is often affected as well.   I had it but recovered after changing my diet.

  10. yeah buddy - chocolate milkshakes twice daily.

  11. Is that dabs? I just don't think she would be comfortable with any smokable forms. Especially if edibles do the same thing. I've vaped before personally do I know what you mean. It's clean. But her lung problems would probably dissuade her and my dad with going through with that option.

  12. Definitely something to explore. I know she's been trying to drink ensure.

  13. I'm not sure. She is seeing a nutritionist but I'm not sure if they've tested for that yet. It's something that I haven't thought of yet. Thanks for the fyi. Ill definitely bring it up.

  14. Thanks for the advice and the kind words. Our family has dealt with this for quite awhile. Because of her lung condition she developed pneumonia last year. Combined with her weight the doctor's gave her a 50/50 chance of making it. She pulled through. For her size she is a strong woman.

I think if we address her weight that will help a ton with the other things she is dealing with. I'm open to all options. That's why I posted.

  15. That's what sucks about being in this archaic state of Ohio. In a mmj state a dispeserary would have a specific strain that would be the most beneficial.

Literally if she goes with this option it's going to be me obtaining it and I don't know the strain or how much percentage of indica/sativa it has. So I'm left with little option except for what I can get.

  16. Fucking Ohio. Although I think the cat's out of the bag now with the epilepsy thing. I just read pa, fl, and mo just passed bills in their legislatures that address this issue(thank you sanjay gupta). I think each state will now fall on this issue forcing the feds to reclassify it from schedule one and admit it has medical properties.

  17.
I know! If Ohio is like my state (and it's not too far), most of what's on the street is a hybrid. If smoking it makes you hungry, it should do the same made into an edible or tincture. Also, even some sativas can increase appetite, but usually not real much.

  18. Right on man. I've been contacting all my state reps and senators lately on this issue. Do the same yourself.

I've also been contacting my state rep and senators as well on this issue to get it re-classified federally.

I'd recommend everyone do the same.

Things are changing rapidly everywhere and every little push counts. Especially for those people whose lives actually could be changed.

  19. So sorry to hear about your mom! My mom has a similar experience with a loss of appetite since she suffers from lymphoma. She doesn't exactly enjoy the smoking part so she has tried edibles before to increase her appetite and it seemed to work for her. Another option I'm trying to explore for her is the use of oil extract. Anyone have any experience with it??

No problem. Man, that's a rough situation. She's still here though. What else needs to be said? Am I right? Maybe you guys can look into weight inducing diets or something like that. Try to get her to eat filling foods. Maybe you can make her fruit smoothies? Just something that's easy to get down, you know? I hope you guys find something!
