Mold Issue.

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by Vanuzzaud, Oct 3, 2010.

  1. So my plant is currently 13 days old and i have noticed some white/grey mold on the surface of my soil. I am wondering why this is doing this? I am new to this and tried to get information but all the mold problems i read about were about greenish mold.

    Information (if this helps)

soil- This really soft soil i found in the forest
    Lighiting- 1 26watt 2700 CFL
watering- once every day just a little bit out of a small turkey baster
    nutrients-none yet
    fan-none
    humidity-70%
    temperature-76-78 feranheit
    ph- Havent checked yet

  2. I'm no expert but "soil i found in the forest" might not be helping! lol

I use compost, and sometimes some of the lumps go yellow-white when they dry out, don't think its much to worry about. But my soil will have been heat treated etc. whereas yours could have anything in it!

  3. Mold is basically white or gray, and will first appear as a spiderlike webbing on your leaves or the top of the soil, this is where the mold spores germinate.

70% humidity is too high, i'd try to get it down to at least 50% and then spray some neem oil on the top of the soil to help fix the problem. Neem oil inhibits resperation which makes the mold spores unable to germinate.

  4. Thanks for the replys! I put a humidifier in and it has brought the humidity down to 50% and i turned over the soil this morning. And so far no mold!

I also think I should change soil. What do you guys reccomend? IDon;t plan to buy online so something sold at K-mart or Wal-mart would be nice.

  5. I used FFOF but sunshine mix #4 or pro-mix bx would be just as good.

Are you planning on using organics or synthetics?

  6. Soil out of the forest lol. But another issue is that my plant is like 3 inches already and gour leaves. The problem is that i have limited space. Pictures is a last resort.

  7. I had a strain of norther lights that looked like it had mold growing around the base of the stem, it turned out, for me to be a genetics thing it just did.

    Humidity and air circulation maybe.
