Mold -> ISO -> Butter?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by potlord, Jul 29, 2012.

  1. OK, I really fucked this one up... I had a plant that I left hanging for months. It dried to a crisp, but was still VERY potent when smoked. Unfortunately, it took on the flavor of dryer sheets (it was in the basement near the laundry area).

Last month, I chopped it up and prepared it for a water cure. After 7 days and 7 water changes, I loaded it up in the dehydrator and dried it out, but not enough. I smoked a few bowls from it, and the dryer sheet flavoring was gone, but it was still a little damp. So I left it out to continue drying. Unfortunately, it started molding, and gut reaction was to do an ISO wash to salvage the best part.

All the buds packed into a jar, filled with 70% ISO. A week later, I'm draining the ISO to finish the process, but then a thought struck me.. can I add a pound of butter to the mix and warm it up to melting temp until the ISO evaporates out, then use this for baking? I'm thinking yes, but I'm just not sure...

Thoughts? Opinions? Can anyone save me from this fuckup? My SO does not like hash, but she does like cookies. I know the ISO will be gone, especially after baking, but I'm worried about residual foul flavor from the ISO.

    Thanks!

  2. Residual foul flavor, logically, should be masked by the flavor of the edible. I'm definitely not experienced enough in this to help u significantly, but I'd say that if there is "residual flavor" from the iso....dont fuck with it....because when residual anything remains from 90%+ iso...its probably best not to eat it lol

  3. 1 week of soaking sounds like a fuckup in the first place to me but maybe thats just me. What i would do is strain the alcohol solution through coffee filters and strainers place together over a dish of some sort, let evaporate. If its a full jar (hence a lot of solution) it will take longer. Just let it evaporate and dont touch it until its all like a powder/dry sift consistency.

  4. Fuck... Anyways, then gather the hash and follow badkittysmiles recipe for canaoil, then cook your cookies. Simple and logical.

That sucks bro, I have done the same thing.. I would reccomend 99% iso. With 70% I would wait until the iso hash be a sticky goo, before melting unsalted butter into it. You want to be sure all the iso is evaporated. I am not sure how the iso would effect the budder mix, but better safe than sorry. Personally, I would let it dry up, scrape it up, and enjoy some hash.

Hope it all works out for you.

  6. Whatever you do don't throw Iso on the stove. Honestly if you have bud that's has been soaking in 70% iso I would just throw it out. You can strain it through a coffe filter onto a Pyrex baking sheet. But what you will get will probaly come out hella black or green, not taste very good and probaly smoke really harsh but I guess it is with a shot

Water cure is a great way to go, to correct problems, like mentioned above, or for stealth reasons. I have used this method for the latter. One of my college aged patient friends periodically has me cure a portion of his alotted crop this way. It takes the smell away very effectively, he claims to have smoked a doob within 15ft upwind of a LEO. I will take his word for it, as it is not something I am willing to test, lol.

However, it also takes the taste away. There is nothing more disconcerting, than smoking SSH w/o taste or smell.

    **edit**

In the past before I started growing, I did this with commercial regs/mexican brown. This will get rid of,watever pesticides and residual synthetics, for a "healthier" smoke.

  8. Ok, after some googling, I think I have my plan figured out, but want some feedback from those of you who have a little more experience...

1 quart jar stuffed full should be 3-4oz of weed. This was a WW and is a very potent smoke for me (half a bowl puts me out).

Last time I did butter, I did about 1oz for a pound of butter and the resulting cookies were fantastic, giving a gentle high that lasted for hours!

So, I think I'll cook a quarter of the product from the ISO into 1lb of butter, which will be enough for about 4 batches of peanut butter cookies (60 cookies per batch). The last batch of cookies I did lasted us for months.

Ugh... I so wish I had a grow in progress so I could just dump this crap... but it is what it is and hopefully it'll work out for the best.

Sounds like a plan. Gl, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

  10. you can pour through activated charcoal. will make the stuff cleaner. can pick that up at pet-co, or any aquarium store. comes in pellets, granules, or powder. I think most people crush it up to a powder and pour alcohol through it, with something like a coffee filter to filter out the carbon from evaporating dish.

aquarium stuff is meant for filtering liquids. air filters require more expensive, 'air phase' carbon.
