So been thinking making my hair into a mohawk. I'm sure somebody on here must have had one at some point, what did you guys find best for keeping that shit up?
Believe it or not kiddies, I used to have a bad ass mohawk back in the day. Typically, it you only want it up for a couple days, I would use cheap unscented hairspray and a blow dryer. It's a method more than anything, learning how much spray and heat to use to get the hold you want. It's also tricky finding a spray that works - brands change all the time, and more than likely the one I used doesn't exist anymore. A cheaper option with WAY better results is KNOX GELATIN. Or any other brand of unflavoured gelatin used in cooking. You pretty much mix up a batch, and paste it in your way with a tinting brush the same way you would if you used hair dye. Then you apply heat from a hair-dryer for a loooong time. I've heard of some people using a flattening iron, never did that myself. This method will give you a result that will last literally months. There was a period where I knoxed my hair (9-10 inches of hair) and it remained flawless for 5 weeks. I went swimming with it, I showered with it, I played shows with it. The only reason I had to take it out was because it started to smell really rank. The one downside of this gelatin is that it is very painful to remove. I had a female friend help me take it out, and despite soaking my head in hot water, having a wet towel wrapped around it for a couple hours, she still essentially had to scrub it out with a steel brush. It was painful and had some hair torn out. The best part is that the gelatin method will cost you usually under $2 for a packet.
i heard everything from elmers glue to eggs..... but the previous advice is all good and to get it nice and slick (straight up) a flat iron is helpfull....
