Mod Q's...~

  1. Hey, I was just sitting here wondering - how to people go about becoming mods? Also, what are all the reqiurements for a mod, I.E. do you have to spend a set amount of time on the forums, ect...? Just curious of how the whole mod job thing works. ^_^

  2. Well, there's quite a bit involved. How long one has been at the City, their contributions to the City, their loyality....there's so much we consider. Being able to trust the person is HUGE! Post amount isn't really a big deal but someone who's here a lot can moderate more than someone who isn't. We work together as a team so one has to be able to deal with teamwork. :)

There's more involved but that's the main points. :)

  3. Ok, thanks for the info!! ^_^

  4. RMJL, If you'll allow me to give a bit of the tainted side, I'll add:

I Admined LOP's board (if you do not know what it is, it's a long story and I just don't want to get into it) for about 2 years. They had about 6,000 members (250 active members) at the time. They've changed boards so many times that they've lost a lot of loyal posters. Anyway, I was online as much their if not more than I am here. It is like being a glorified baby sitter. We had 3 rules... That's it, THREE! I'll be damned if most active posters wouldn't push the envelope after being around for 5 months or so. It was so frustrating. Picking Mods was soooooo tough. There were tons of loyal members but not many right for the job. A lot of Mods would fucking go on power trips and ban people... It was so nuts. We had so many active posters that someone had to be there all the time. So we'd try to get mods overseas to help out but it never worked. I'd wake up in the morning having to remove so many fucked up things.

I am always so impressed with how cool the mods are here. I couldn't do it after 2 years. I said fuck it and walked away. It helps that GC has an age limit. LOP didn't and it SUCKED.

Anyway, I'm high thanks to you DP. lol The backyard is beautiful.

  5. RuMJiL and I handle everything to do with anything on the forum side of Grasscity, so in essence we make the call.

In the past we typically have had all exisiting Mods vote in additional Mods in the past. Existing Mods suggest members they would feel to be a good Mods, and then the list is narrowed down to x amount. From that amount, a vote is taken among the existing Mods to obtain new Mods. That's how all of us got here today.

RuMJiL and I have accepted applications since taking the helm from Superjoint, but all existing Mods will still have a say in the matter. Everything we do revolves around teamwork. If a tie vote is reached, RuMJiL and I are the tiebreakers.

As far as Super Mod, which is Mod rights to all forums instead of certain assigned ones, RuMJiL and I make the call on that.

Administrator access is only available directly through Superjoint, and it's by invitation from him only. Admin access gives complete control on every aspect of the forum, including the actual VBulletin settings, Photo Gallery settings, and the shop. Basically requires a huge amount of trust, and previous working relationship with Superjoint to ever even be considered for that. RuMJiL and I are acutally the only people he's granted that access to in the history of the boards.

  6. So do you see all posts immediately after they're submitted? How about private messages? And what does a mod do the majority of the time? Especially with such a smooth flowing forum such as GC. Last but not least do you get nifty name tags and discounts on gc products? Spill the beans! :smoke:

( 700th post, slow but steady.)

  7. LOL.

The smooth flowing forum is the direct result of all of us. There are many, many, hours we all put into behind the scense work. It's what we do that makes this forum flow so smoothly. There's a ton of stuf that is dealt with on a daily basis that is handled so quickly, that the majority of users don't even see it. It's what we do that allows the forum to appear so smooth. :)

There's certain settings RuMJiL and I have access too that allow us to monitor any and all aspect of the forum if need be. We don't use most of them much these days, but they are there should the need arise. I can't be going and giving away our trade secrets though. ;)

We do it all for free, out of the love of these forums. :)

  8. awww.....the love of the city.

  9. We have amazing Mods here. They are essential to this board running smoothly and I love the way they just step the F up and do it. :D It's a cool team.

  13. Rummy got it backwards... It is HER who likes the stinky water and funny feather suit :)

    Wow... I'm VERY wasted!... Um...

ALL the mods kick so much ass. I love this place :D The admins go above and beyond so much...

And now I'm gonna go before this turns into a sap fest, LMAO!

  14. be prepared for lude sexual acts of a very degrading nature.

  15. Poopsex? =P

  16. Ha...yep you speak the truth.

I managed one forum admined at another and super modded on vb at a tech forum.

Thus far it's always been infighting between a few dick fencing morons that usually ends up aimed at me once I call them on the bullshit.

  17. I've modded a couple of message boards in the past, and honestly it's not really something I'd want to do again. Like some have already said, it's a lot of work, not a lot of fun. I like hanging around these forums and all, but I can't imagine sifting through thread after thread every day to keep things sane. So to that end, kudos to the existing mods in keeping this place clean.

  18. Yeah, i'm with astro, i've modded my fair share of forums in the pasts. The thing about it is, there is next to no glory or anything in having mod status. You catch an enormous amount of shit from stupid little kids that don't agree with you for bannings and probations. And you're work is never noticed, and if its never noticed, you're doing a good job. Sort of like being MIB.

  19. Yeah, ain't that the truth!

  20. MIB would describe it fairly well... Lots of work, little recognition... But that's good. If people don't realise anything's going on, then that means you're doing a good job, lol.
