MMJ for Chronic Migraines?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by Yung_Money, Jan 13, 2010.

  1. i was wondering if there is any scientific data to prove that MMJ helps prevent or get rid of migraines, because it seems to be the only solution for me that really gets rid of them fast i get them just about everyday around 5 and they last until i go to bed my doctor pretty much told me to take ibuprofen and relax but instead i usually just pack my vaporizer and it dulls it or makes it seem to go away, and as a Maine resident i was wondering since the new law passing if i should attempt to get on the program Thanks

  2. I'm interested in any links supporting this as well.

You might qualify if you can find a physician who will recommend it. Here are the definitions of qualifying medical conditions in Maine...

I'm thinking section B is your best bet. However since your doctor has only suggested you take some ibuprofen and hasn't resorted to even trying stronger prescription meds, I highly doubt he/she would be willing to sign a recommendation since there's no record of having tried ordinary medical measures. If I were you I would see what your doc can do, and after you've exhausted the options he/she will probably be more willing to explore the question of MMJ.

However, I wouldn't really worry about getting a recommendation in Maine. So long as you're not openly flaunting your use and are smart and quiet about growing you should be fine. Even if you are busted it's basically an expensive parking ticket for anything under 2.5 ounces.

As far as any literature supporting MMJ for migraines, check out the following article.

Here is the conclusion from that article....

  4. thanks alot for the information, yeah im going back next week to my dr's for a follow up and im going to see if theres any other medication i could try since excedrin an ibuprofin arnt doing the trick at all

  5. Weed always does the trick for headaches, I mean instantly gone.. ^_^

  6. thats exactly the way with me, i can take some other drugs for it and wait however long for it to MAYBE go away or i can hit my vape a few times and be fine

  7. I have had migraines since i was 5, they are the worst thing I have ever had to go through. I Started smoking 3 years ago and since then I rarely get them. But If i ever feel them coming on, instead of taking 2 aleve and a sudaphedrine I just smoke a bowl and it just goes away.

What I was wondering, which is almost the same question as above just more specific...
Is there medical records of all marijuana helping headaches? or is it more strain specific that will help megraine headaches, like other disorders.

I buy from friends so I don't really ever know the strain name, but after I toke I can usually tell if its more sativa or indica. Most of the stuff I get is usually more indica dominant. It seems to work just fine on these terrible headaches.

  8. I think its just all marijuana. Ever since I started toking regularly I haven't had a migraine for 2 years. I use to get them a couple times a month

  9. From Granny Stormcrow's most excellent list. The idea that migraine may be related to under production of cannabinoids is quite interesting...

  10. I hoped they all thanked you by repping you, Red! The powers that be won't let me rep you for a bit, so thanks once again for beating me to the punch! Love ya!

And YES! It works for migraines! :hello:

    Granny

  11. i have my MMJ for migraines.. which without MMJ I am on daily meds and have a long history of migraines.. (so long my regular doc, not a mmj doc, gave me my MMJ)

although, today... nothing has helped.. and I've tried everything... :(.

Normally with MMJ I dont need other meds (of which I been prescribed everything throughout the years)....

  12. I had a positive response when I tried mmj for migraines. I was having to go into the ER for shots every few months, and it wasn't worth the pain. I also used injections at home with an Imitrex pen. I smoked it mmj home, and made a tincture to use at work.

You'd definitely qualify under part B of that list.

  13. I've had since I was 9 years old.
Ever since I smoked weed the amount of migraines I get has decreased.
I usto get up to 3 migraines a week.

  14. your Dr. told you to take Ibuprofen every time? Maybe i'm mistaken, but I thought long term Ibu use caused liver damage.

Not sure the procedure in ME, but you could prbly just request your records from your dr.'s office, find out which dr's in your area are writing recommendations, and go see them w/ your records. if you don't know where to find one, call a dispensary or if you have a local weekly liberal rag newspaper, they are probably advertising inthe back of it.

  15. Haha, a liberal news paper, recomendations... I live in Texas and its more like a conservative newspaper and the only people that recommend weed is the dealers or your old highschool friends. But yeah, too much ibuprofen is bad, but he said aleve and sudaphedrine, a little different. But either way thanks for the adive, i wish i lived in an area like that!

  16. yeah, I'm sure your screwed in TX... I remember trying to buy a freaking beer at a restaurant there and having to sign up for some stoopid registration card first. I think that was in Amarillo. But, you could always move to CO like all the other Texans. ;)

  17. haha, yeah, It sure is beautiful there. Possibly one day.

  18. have had migraines since 6 years old, up until recently i was getting 1-3 weekly. I have tried just about every perscription med, and nothing has worked that didnt flatten me. If i can catch it before it is too bad or if i wait until the headache starts to clear i can smoke and almost instantly get relief where as nothing else in the past worked.

  19. Have been getting migraines for a couple years now, if I feel one coming on I can smoke and I'll feel perfectly fine, but if I dont catch it, i cant smoke when I have one, feels like it just gets worse

  20. YES!! MJ works for severe migraines!! I have used it for several years specifically for my migraines. The only other thing that SOMETIMES helps is Immitrex(for me)---and the side effect of that are waaaaaay more dangerous than cannabis could EVER be.
Mine are so bad that at times I have just wished I would die instead of go through the horrendous pain.:(
