Hi, Im doing muay thai and brazillian jiu jitsu and hopefully transitioning to mma in the near future. I smoke weed on the weekends with my friends but i have heard that smoking will affect lung capacity and cardio. Please dont give me false information because mma is pretty much my life and i do not want to jeopardize my future in mma at all. I know nick diaz smokes weed but at the same time he is always very slow and unfocused in the cage. Can anyone help me out? thanks!
nick diaz isn't slow in the cage guy. if you're really worried just invest in a vaporizer, but i think you'll be fine. in highschool science class we tested everyones lung capacity and the stoners in the class absolutely destroyed everyone else, even the athletes!
I'm not a doctor, but in my personal experience people who engage in regular cardiovascular exercise can maintain a strong lung capacity even if they smoke weed like every day.
It will hinder lung capacity and o2 uptake as the resin coats your alveoli. Take a look at a screen after a couple bowls. The counter is to increase your cardio and continue to document progress over time. This way you will have proof that your cardio is not degrading and at least maintaining.
Yeah, except the cilia in your lungs can clean themselves, unlike the screen in your bowl (btw who the fuck uses screens anymore?)
When I smoke weed/mma. I get pubched in the fae and turnnthe other cheek hahaha I couldnt smoke and fight. Smokong weed takes away my man power
Dont get me wrong, nick diaz is one of my favorite fighters but he just seems very relaxed and unfocused in the cage. But yea i might look into a vaporizer, do you still get as high off of vaporizers? Like if i were to smoke the same amount from a bowl and (vape) from a vaporizer which would get me higher?
^ also vaping hurts.my lungs and makes them feel scratchy and burny as opposed to a nice smooth toke into my mouth let its cool inhale into lungs
I've been training as long as I've been smoking (over 10 years). It hasn't affected me at all. Just keep your cardio up, stay away from tobacco, and your lungs will clean themselves. I recently had to quit toking for a fight contract, though. I've got "random but consistent" urinalyses to look forward to
Lol idk what that guy is talking about, his vape must suck or he doesn't have it on the right temperature when he's using it. I've used a couple different vaporizers and you just have to figure out the ideal temp for your specific vape. When you get it just right you get nice smooth tokes of vapor and it'll get you high as fuck, it's just more of a heady feeling. In my experience vaporizers don't provide much of a body high for some reason, but they definitely get you lifted.

Hes a great fighter and one of my favorites , but he just doesent seem to have that very sharp fighting style im trying to achieve
Right. He's a street fighter through-and-through. Not that there's anything wrong with that when you can fight at the level he can, but he could definitely become a much better fighter by knocking off the theatrics and taking some time to hone technique.
i dunno who said he doesn't get high off a vape there but ive got the airizer and im well bagged out my face
weed does take away some of your cardio ive been training muay thai for 5 months now and i quit smoking for 1 month and it made a difference i wouldnt gas out as quick, but if your just doing it to stay in shape and self defense like me than i wouldnt worry about it, unless you plan on going pro than yeah i would quit smoking and drinking and get your diet under control, or train a fuck load harder than everyone else
Dude I'll be honest. I do bjj (muay thai/mma training on the occasion) and have been for the past 4 years. I started smoking 2 years ago mostly on weekends like yourself, sometimes during the week. It was a good way to relax, but I noticed it affected my game. Not severely, but my cardio wasn't as good as it was and I seemed to be just overall less focused in the sport. Not to mention the munchies. So I decided to change my habits, in the past few months I only smoke if I'm going to the club or some special occasion. Maybe twice a month. And lately I've noticed my game has improved. But everybody is different. I'm feeling good not smoking on a regular basis.
I found smoking helped me with swimming, i was up to a min 30 underwater while swimming at a slow pace. Before i could maybe get 20 feet, now i can reach 45 - 70 feet. So I wouldn't worry.
