Mj and the kidney

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by lunarpig, Jan 18, 2007.

  1. Well folks.. As a young child i had some serious kidny problems.. I was born with only one full functional kidny..The docters said i probably wouldnt make it passed age 10 without need a transplant but here i am 22 years old and feeling fine.. but.. there is always a but...

I recently had surgery on my eye.. before surgery they did some standered blood work and they saw that my kidnys are letting out a little to much protien into my urin.. i went to my family docter and he said this is definetly a reason for concern.. i remember him mentioning something about the beginings of kindy failure.. Now since my last blood test for kidneys (wich came out fine) i have started smoking cigerets (horrible habbit no one start it)

Im trying to figure out why all of a sudden my kidneys are acting up.. Im a huge mj smoker (smoke every day) and i also smoke cigerets..Is it the MJ messing with my kidnys? or is it possible the cigerts or both? any info would be great.. thanks for the heads up

  2. no one here is going to be able to give you a concrete answer, ask a doctor man, that shits life and death

the only thing i can assure you is cigs arent helping

  3. yeah i was kinda afraid of that.. thanks for trying

  4. I could almost copy and paste your post as my own. Went/going through basically the same kidney stuff.
As far as I know MJ has had no major effect on my kidneys. I smoke cigarettes too. I make sure to stay up on my fluids also. Not much for alcohol either.
I went through alot of my kidney problems back in high school. I've been smoking daily for quite a while and haven't had any major side effects. The only thing I would say is my appetite, but that could turn out to be a completely different medical problem. I tend to stay away from doctors now, it never turns out good when I see them.

  5. ok, well as with any other problem you need to supply some background. there are many possibilities why you suddenly developed kidney problems. need some background on diet, physiological ailments and psychological ailments, and any medications you might be taking that you don't mind talking about. i'm sure you've been told this by your physician, but with any kidney problems you should definitely drink as much water as possible and avoid excessive sugar intake. there are no documented effects on the kidney from the use of marijuana as far as i know, but that does not mean that it's not affecting you (i doubt that it is). cigarettes, however, are linked to kidney cancer and a few other things. the nicotine in the tobacco has many effects on the body that people don't realize. you should really consider quitting cigarettes because of your particular condition. if i missed something or if you have any other questions post up and i'll see if i can help.

  6. hmm well other problems.. I guess nothing really changed.. I been gonig through huge changes mentaly i guess (mother died last year (age 50) today would actually have been her 51st :(.. no mediactions other then THC and nicotine.. and i dont know if it matter but i have not slept a full night in maybe 2months..im sure thats just because of all the stuff thats been floating in my head latly..

anywho.. the only major change i can say is that i the day after thanksgiving i was jumped by about 9 or so grown men (long story.probably my fualt.. the reason i dont drink and go out anymore).. This is actually why i had the eye surgery (detached retina) which lead to blood work wich lead to bad news for the kidneys.. The beating was pretty bad.. but honestly if my kidneys would have been damage in anyway during the fight.. eer beating.. wouldnt i have felt it physicly? rite now i feel fine.. its just the black and white paper that spells trouble..

anywho even through out all this.. I have my own little comfert zone in my brain when i break/role/light.. i will never give this stuff up

  7. sorry to hear about your mother.

are you depressed? depression can play a huge role in health. if you're depressed or you think you might be, you should visit a doctor about it for help. a lot of people try to self-medicate depression and sometimes that's not the best idea. as for your sleeping problem, it could be insomnia or what you said about the mental rush. does the marijuana help you with your sleeping? as for the kidney being damage during the beating, it's definitely a possibility and it's possible that you wouldn't realize it. however, i don't think this is what caused your problems. i'm leaning towards depression as a key factor and like i said it can and will create a lot of changes in your body. again, you should really consider quitting cigarettes because they are not good for you in many, many ways, especially with your condition.

if you're feeling fine then try your best not to worry about what a piece of paper might say. it's definitely possible that the doctor may be mistaken. it's hard to tell because i don't know your exact condition and i haven't seen the blood work. remember that you can always get a second opinion and it might be a wise decision in times like this. hope this helped.

  8. ^Are you a doc or P.A.? I'm actually a medically retired corpsman - starting PA school next fall.

  9. Then give us some info on this please.

  10. My face was thrashed by some fat kid last year and I can't breathe through my left nostril. Don't know why I brought that up but what the fuck. My father died during 9/11 and my mother has the bad case of the mups on her throat ( which makes it hard to her to breathe at night). Don't worry about the kidney problem man for now. You can get a kidney transplant (I don't know how but when there's a will there's a way). What you should be doing right now for yourself is to stop smoking cigarettes. Its only purpose is to kill you. I don't have a clue about MJ, whether you should stop smoking it or only take it orally. Smoke can fuck anybody up (like the lungs, heart). Nicotine is a very toxic substance, even smoking a cigarette has traces of carbon monoxide (which is found highly concentrated in the car's muffler while the car is on drive). My left eye is blurry all the time from a cooking accident, haha. I get depressed and all that shit but i'm not going to be emotional and shit. I easily replace that with a good fart joke.

Take this crap into consideration. Live life to the fulliest.

  11. Its probably the cigarettes or the new kidney you got could be messing around. I don't really know for sure but definently get it checked out to see what the problem is

  12. Sorry, man, I don't want to hijack threads.

In all honesty, his point is great. It really has to do with the medical history, and depression can have a huge effect on his health. If something isn't right chemically, he could be spiraling downward on account of his depression. Depression has many far-reaching complications that most can only speculate about - but most agree on the fact that depression seriously affects health.
