Missionaries have committed great atrocities throughout history blah blah blah. It's everything Jesus' message is against. It's intolerance packaged as something it isn't. It has destroyed many cultures. It is wrong...At the school I went to which used to be Native American land. They built a fucking school in the Missionary style. It makes me cringe with disgust. That being said...I expect some responses to this one from other points of view, so have at it.
While I don't believe in the idea of Missionaries seeing as they force religion on people who were fine without it. Though, some poeple really think they are helping.
I mean it's a noble cause, trying to help people find God and become more "civilized". Though alot of things are noble causes and are turned into fasads of greed and corruption. So, all I have learned is that you must allow people to live and if they so desire religion, offer it to them, but only as muc has they ask.
How is that a noble cause? I mean If someone asks u, then it's a noble cause, but any other way, and it's something completely different...
Missionaries are HORRIBLE. I won't tell my friend who is over in Russia right now my thoughts on it, I wished him well. But the fact that someone has the arrogance to go to someone elses private home, disturb them, and tell them what ever they believe is wrong, is absolutely horrible. It's mainly a Christian phenominon, and it's absolutely HORRIBLE. It is not a noble cause in any form of the word! It's disgusting, and I am HIGHLY against the thought of a missionary. What gives you the right to come to my home and tell me my belief system is wrong? That's modern day missionaries. As for the historical past of missionaries, the pages of history will forever be tainted with the blood that was spilt as a result. It's disgusting. Im pretty much with Jonsi on this one. Its terrible because i have people close to me who have done missionary work.... i've always held my tongue with how I fell though. I really dont have a reason to feel otherwise. They force their religion on people and decimate native culture. It's purly assimilation in my mind. Picking on the weakest, most naive, most opportunistic people and shoving a faith down their throats
