i just walked passed my big mound of soil mix and saw that the miracle gro Perlite had "enhanced with miracle gro plant food" written right on the side of the bag. i dont know how i missed this:smoke:
would i be ahead to take it back or should it be fine? im using it in my base soil mix and in my seed/sprout starter mix.

2. I always avoid MG, for multiple reasons. It's your life and your choice, but you can always choose better than Miracle Grow. And I'm going to even go as far to predict nobody in this section will disagree with me on this claim. Lol.

1 Vote for "NO" on Miracle Grow.

Miracle Grow is a subsidiary of Scott's/Monsanto, and we don't support their wickedness here. If the MG perlite is all I could aquire, I would soak and flush the heck out of it to try to remove as much of the poison as I could. Schultz brand perlite is chemical free, and can usually be found in all the big box stores in 12 qt. bags for less than the MG perlite.

Edit: also there is the Napa oil absorbent product that is diatomaceous earth that many people recommend for an aeration amendment. Perhaps someone with a link could post it. HTH.

4. But the telly commercial says that "Everybody Grows With Miracle Grow"!?

Monsanto wouldn't lie - would they?

5. Does the tin man have a sheet metal weiner?

6. i would think since it has so little in it that it wouldnt hurt.

Willie Nelson just called and told me he will quit smoking herb, playing music, and being awesome in general, if you decide on using miracle grow. Willie Nelson hates Miracle Grow.

No big deal.......your choice.

8. Lol i tell people i use miracle grow all the time lmao

You're correct. Probably not. But, again, you could do better.

For real though, google something like "why is Monsanto bad?" Or look into what Willie Nelson says about it with Farm Aid concerning Monsanto, and decide whether you want to support their cause. No big deal if you do. I won't be mad at ya. I just choose to give my money somewhere else.....and many many others do too. Not a big fan of what they've done to our natural soil here in the US. They also invented Agent Orange.

Good luck with your grow!

10. thanks i think.

11. We have to remember what effect the miracle gro has. The miracle grow chemical ferts will hurt the soil microbes, working against the very thing you are trying to accomplish in an organic soil (lots of microbial activity). This is far worse than some kind of "nutrient burn". Those chemicals that you add are killing off the same beneficial microbes that you are trying to foster in your soil-the ones that feed and look after your plant for you. An inhospitable environment for soil microlife is far more serious than a temporary injury to the plant from chemical nutrients. So just remember that that's the (biological) reason you don't want to use it.

Just as compelling are the ethical reasons to avoid miracle gro. They are owned by monsanto. Look up evil in the dictionary if you're not familiar with them. The world would be a better place if the devil himself was running monsanto. Keep your money as far away from them as possible.

12.
thanks i think.
Apologies if that came off as snarky sounding. I should have just answered the question, and left politics out. (as usual! Lol) I do wish you, and anyone doing this, the best of luck. Always..

13. Their latest commercial even had a cute hippie chick on the front porch extolling the virtues of MG fertilizers. Pinpoint marketing eh?

14. Wow. Somehow I'm not surprised.

15. You think if I stacked some bags of MG organic on my front porch I could snag myself a cute hippie chick?

16. well i used it since i had it. im hoping i didnt go horribly wrong here. i wasnt even aware of the evil company side of things.

17. since your viewing this could i ask you to go over how you "cook your soil" or what ever its called? like how you have to let it set because its too hot in the begining. can i just toss it on a tarp in my yard and keep it moist for a few months(2-3)?

You should be OK. These are organic purists giving you advice, so Miracle Grow is certainly gonna get ripped on here in the organics section. But, like SD mentioned, people do grow and have success with MG. I'm pretty sure I used MG (partially) in my first grow and it turned out fine. Then I read info, here, and decided to stop using it. It's not going to ruin your plants.....but, yes, in the future you can certainly do better.

Just read all the posts and stickies and ask ?'s here, in this section. Lots of helpful people who are usually more than happy to help!

19. I love cute hippy chicks. Hehe...

Anyhow, no - it might not hurt too badly. Lemme ask, is the MG already mixed in? If it is, hey, try it. I don't think it's going to make your plants shrivel up and die or anything like that - like Op said, we can (all) do better than support those god-awful earth-killing hypocritical lying bastards....*lol*

Eh, take it is a lesson. No big deal.

20. thanks Jerry, and thanks everyone else. its going to be on my mind now though. "oh no! a brown spot!" "probablly due to that damned miracle gro perlite i used!"
that will be my attitude this whole grow lol.
