Mini Grow Cab - Mystery Bagseed!

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by highbeernation, Aug 7, 2012.

  1. Well, hopefully the third time's a charm this time. I still have a bunch of store-bought seeds, but I found a bunch of bagseeds and decided to give it a shot. Out of the 5 that I tried to germinate, only 1 of them actually popped out. Whatever.

But anyway. The box is about 1'x2'x3', and I have 4x 23w CFLs, 5600k balanced hanging from the top with a reflector, so it's nice and adjustable. I have a 4" computer fan for the intake, and just a passive outtake which I'd like to fit with some kind of filter.

Just a little baby right now, but more pics to come. I'm 0 for 3 on females, which equals like the worst luck in the world. :confused_2:

  2. The lights were a little too close, so the plant ended up growing UP more than I wanted to yet. Moved those lights down a little bit and ready to rock.

  3. Of course the first many pictures are boring. Seedling stage. Whatever.

Thought I'd throw in a picture of the box just for funsies. It looks totally shabby and yes it's made out of cardboard but no I haven't had any problems with it.

It sprouted on the 5th, which makes it 5days old today since it popped outta the soil. I feel like it's doing pretty well so far? It's really too early to tell. But I'm thinking of starting FF GrowBig pretty soon and get this plant growin'.

    Nice.

  4. The plant is looking pretty good so far! Getting on the third set of leaves, and I'm noticing the edges of the first set are starting to curl under. Could this be from some strange nute imbalance our having the lights too close?

On the other hand, I'm living currently in a basement with some mold. There's been some little white spores (?) visible on the soil. It doesn't really look like anything out of the ordinary yet. Despite the dehumidifier and fan going, I don't want to lose this one at so young an age.
I'll see what happens. I'm gonna be gone for a little over a week, so can anyone recommend a way to keep it watered, or at least hydrated, for the time I'm gone?

Spores dropping is bad man, soon they will congregate to form a mycellium which will start feeding on the micro organisms and organic matter in your soi (stealing your plants nutes). I'd suggest repotting and keeping your box somewhere else if possible mate until the basement dries and you air out the spores. Your going to have to eventually because you dont want light touching those roots through that clear container. The leaf drooping doesn't seem bad from the pics and in my personal experience I've only had leaves droop from over watering.

In regards to you leaving could you quickly set up a little aeroponic system on a timer haha.. I havn't left any plants stranded for longer than 4 days so I can't really give you advice on that front. Could you leave it outside so it could get natural light/rain for the week?

Nice growth so far "she" looks happy :)

So it's been a while since the last update with this plant. And it's certainly had it's ups and downs.

Poor little plant didn't like it too much that I was gone for 9days, and by the time I got back it was totally droopin'. It hadn't been watered the whole time, and the fan was on, blowing all the moisture out anyway.
I gave it a good dose of water, repotted it into an opaque container, and finally built a legitimate cabinet out of some cheap plywood. This new box is 1'x1.5'x2' and fits pretty neatly into my girlfriend's closet ;)

The plant's definitely healthier than it was before. Some of the leaves had to be trimmed off due to yellowing, but that doesn't seem to have slowed it down.

The mold problem seems to have tapered off too once I replanted it. No more white dust settling on top of the soil either! The only thing is probably a little sawdust from the sanding I gave the box.

  7. I would suggest painting the inside of that box white or line it with mylar

  8. I figured that would be the next suggestion. I have a can of white spray that I'm gonna use soon. I need to refill my ONA gel jar and get up the DIY carbon filter sooner than later too. Still needs some work...

  9. Guess it's been awhile since an update. Definitely undergone some changes in the meantime. I decided to make put a screen in, but you can see from some of the pictures that it didn't work too well the first time. After long enough I redid the screen and fed it through in true scrog style.

Technically, the plant's 43days old, so just over 6weeks, and it's been under 12/12 for 4days. No preflowers yet, but it doesn't look like balls yet, which is a good sign. Last thing I want is more balls.

I have it, but haven't started using FF Tiger Bloom. Would anyone recommend using Big Bloom in conjunction with it, or am I okay to just use 2parts of the trio?

  10. Good. God. After much freaking out and worrying over this plant, I think I finally have some definitive proof that my plant is a 'she'! Almost a week under 12/12 and I found the very first signs of pistils.

    Super happy.

  11. congradulations man. really interested in seeing some future development

  12. You guys. What the fuck am I doing wrong? Every plant I grow seems to say FUCK YOU and turn into a male.

The cabinet isn't lightproof, but it resides in a closet buried behind enough stuff to not make a difference. I highly doubt that it's a hermie because I don't see anything even resembling pistils anymore. What else stresses a plant enough to turn it into a male?

This makes me 0 for 4 on females.

  13. give it a couple more days -- it will be definite by then
