Hey folks, had a thought about cooling lights. We can cool high performance computers by filling their cases with mineral oil. Thoughts on doing the same with my lighting? Stuff is pretty cheap.
I don't see why not. I did a bit of googling, and the specific heat of mineral oil is a lot lower than water. Mineral oil may be useful for computers, but you'll need to move it quicker around HID bulbs so it doesn't get too hot. I've seen people use water before, but I think mineral oil might not carry the heat away from your bulb quick enough. It takes a lot more energy to move water up a degree than in mineral oil.
