Mineral Buildup

Discussion in 'Bongs, Dab Rigs, Bubblers, Water Pipes' started by smokinNslayin, May 9, 2011.

  1. I just acquired a new inline ashcatcher and it has some buildup at the bottom that appears to be mineral deposits (def not weed or resin). I have tried putting sand in it and shaking, ISO, simple green to no avail. Anyone have any experience removing mineral deposits from glassware? Thanks much.

  2. if it's hard water stains....vinegar maybe? some dish washing stuff might help:confused_2:

  3. bump, im wanna know the secret to mineral buildup too

  4. why is hard water/mineral build up so common, i see threads and posts about it all the time, ive never heard of anywhere around me having that issue, what state r u guys from?

  5. same here i have never heard of this before in my life

  6. CLR or any lime away style product will take the hard water stains from your piece. personal suggestion would be to use bottled water.

  7. CLR probably works great but it's fairly lethal lol. Vinegar worked great :) No abrasion necessary, it just sat there and dissolved the deposits in like 5 minutes. Thanks guys

  8. Hard water stains/mineral deposits will go right away if u can scrub them off with something, I had the same stains in the bottom of my straight tube, vinegar, salt, iso, nothing worked, I got some nylon brushes that reach in and did the job instantly, was like watching magic.

  9. thanks a lot smokinNslayin.

to not have to bother with that in the future, purified water in a bong is nice :D

  10. My guess to why some people experience mineral build-up could be because of the area you live in. Many cities add Flouride, and possibly other chemicals to the water as well. They do this where I live, and there is a noticeable taste to the water, which goes away when purified. I have had similar stains build up before, I just used 99% iso and salt, but it didn't completely remove them. Never tried vinegar though; sounds like it worked pretty well for you! My best suggestion for now on is to clean it out as much as possible to prevent this problem again. That's what works best for me at least.

    Just a theory :smoke:
