Sup guys I'm probably going to be getting the Lenovo idea pad y580. Mostly for school but since its pretty powerful I might gt some pc games for it. I'm thinking about borderlands 2 and far cry 3. Now can somebody explain steam to me. So I buy the game on steam and then I can just play it or do i have to download it to the computer and then I can play it? Will I be able to play those games at pretty high graphics without it lagging a lot?
with steam you buy it (or the game is free, tons of them are on there) then download it and play I dunno the specs on that computer lol but i think its the same laptop my friend just got and its pretty sweet... ill have to ask his which specifically he got but i know its an ideapad
well obviously you have to download the game first in order to play it. or else you'd have a very laggy and unstable game. Steam is awesome though, i use it even for non-steam games. very easy way to see all your games and keep em organized in one place. as for your pc being able to run those games, you should be good for the most part. might have some heating issues. (most laptops do, not sure about yours) best way to know for sure is check out Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements it'll match your system specs with the minimum requirements for whatever game your interested in. very useful stuff! welcome to the pc gamer world we are a rare breed. and once you go pc. you'll never go back
This lol. I used to hate on PC players but now that I have one.... my God. Regular console games that are on PC can be modded to extremes, PC exclusive games have insanse graphics, and any game released on console also can support Xbox 360 or PS3 controllers if you want. The only reason I still have an Xbox is for when I want to play Forza. I play Call of Duty on Xbox now and laugh at the graphics, once upon a time I thought they were the best. Don't get me wrong though, I love my Xbox and still use it to play with friends, but well let's just say it's been collecting dust recently.
i ment to type more but i was on my phone get a low budget laptop for school then spend the rest of the money on a decent / good tower
Yea true, but the specs on the y580 are pretty sweet, and my old lenovo never had heating issues, it was a different model though, with less power haha. But still, i stressed it out a lot gaming at work... My friend games on his occasionally... ill ask if the heats an issue... Ive seen him run GW2 on full graphics on it, and BF3 (not sure what the gfx setting was though but it looked really good)
Yea. and you NEVER EVER game on a wooden surface... that shit holds heat far too well
Lol this and i lol'd at luggin a tower to class You cant go wrong buying Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Youll be able to play it for years to come long after your other games have gotten boring. Seriously, CSS and CSGO are some of my favorite purchases. I also recommend Starcraft 2
Thanks guys I forgot about cs, I downloaded csgo on Xbox and it just felt so weird I was like this games terrible..
^lol yeah they stayed pretty true to the original CS, so if you never played it it's probably not that interesting edit: just googled "IdeaPad Y580" and it actually has some pretty good specs... You'd probably would be able to play Farcry 3 and all that. The only thing that I'd be worried of.. "Supported Video Cards at Time of Release: AMD Radeon™ HD 2900 / 3000 / 4000 / 5000 / 6000 / 7000 series, NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX / 9 / 200 / 400 / 500 / 600 series. Laptop versions of these cards may work, but are not supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game. For the most up-to-date minimum requirement listings, please visit the FAQ on our support website at http://support.ubi.com." from the farcry 3 steam page
Whoever said that pcs arent for gaming is wrong. When you don't customize your laptop for gaming it won't be good. Steam along with PC gaming are pretty cool, with Steam they often have 50-75% off sales for a week/day on all kinds of games, if it's the summer sale all games. I recommend making sure that your laptop is well equipped if you plan on getting involved in computer gaming. Having the weaker graphics and cpu may seem good on the price tag, but it won't be worthwhile while dealing with lag or whatever when gaming. Edit: My computer/specs I've got the hp dv7t laptop with a 2.3 ghz quad core i7 processor, 8gb ram, and a nvidia Geforce GT 650M 2 gb graphics card. This works well for any game I've tried and all my school work. Good luck and have fun!
Those are almost the exact same specs as my laptop. Edit: I wanna try cs on the laptop, should I buy CSS or csgo? And will they be able to run fine? Also will borderlands 2 or far cry 3 run better?
never played a counter strike game before so i wouldn't know. but for your other question - i'd have to say borderlands 2 will run better. far cry 3 definitely puts your system to the test, but both games you should be able to run, just not on the highest settings
thanks for the response. some other guys on another forum said i would be running them both on medium settings, would they look really bad or somewhat good? if they look bad ill probably just get them both for xbox.
thanks for the response. some other guys on another forum said i would be running them both on medium settings, would they look really bad or somewhat good? if they look bad ill probably just get them both for xbox.
If I'm not mistaken most Xbox games are run on medium or a little lower so it will look the same or even a little better
