Just smoked a bowl and watched that while waiting on my work partner. Kinda glad he was running late today or I'd have missed it.
Dude the sunrises and sunsets really have been killer out here lately. We gotta good state, man. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
It’s honestly a great fuckin place, man. My only gripe about it is the legality issue for the herb. Straight up wouldn’t even care if they decriminalized it to where I would risk getting a ticket anytime I’ve got herb on me (granted legalization would be better). I just hate risking jail time for weed, but at the end of the day this place is my home and I ain’t going anywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I hated it with a passion and have absolutely no desire to ever return. The only advantage I see to TN is that it is a relatively cheap place to live. In my experience though cheap places to live are usually cheap for a reason. You do have some decent scenery, particularly in east TN, but plenty of places have amazing scenery.
That’s a shame, man. But hey different folks different strokes. It really all depends on the exposure you have of the place and of the people. Never met friendlier folks than in TN. But yeah, all you gotta do is drive for about 30 mins in any direction depending on where you’re at and you’ll find yourself at a gorgeous state park. Nashville was good for a time but it’s changed a whole hell of a lot. I’m outta Nashville now and in the country and couldn’t be happier. Simple life with simple folks and beautiful land. Couldn’t ask for more. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I live in the middle Tennessee area as well. Honestly it's a great place fiscally speaking. In fact economically, we're the #2 ranked state in the country. On the personal side of things though we aren't so good, strict cannabis laws, pretty high taxes on tobacco and alcohol, gun laws are about middle of the pack, and the educational system here is in the shitter. What worries me is the mass migration of Californians over to Tennessee. I've met several people moving here from California. I mean, I don't blame people for wanting to leave a fucked up state. Just as long as they keep their asinine economic decisions out I'll be fine. Though, good intentioned or not, this will likely fuck up our state income tax leniency in the not so distant future. It's only natural a income tax will be inevitable due to the sharp increase of population. Naturally, with this, comes the increase prices in land which have been relatively affordable up till now. Nashville, our capital, is not only the biggest city in our state but it's continually growing and becoming one of the biggest hubs in the entire country. It already outscores Atlanta, Vegas, Albuquerque, and Miami. In other words, things, on paper at least, look like they're only going to go downhill from here. I've been looking at other states possibly considering a move. Nevada is at the top of my list right now as a possibility. Far more personal freedoms than Tennessee. Economy in Nevada is drastically worse, but, they appear to be on a rebound. Colorado looks good too, but I'm not sure how well I would like the high elevations there. I'm not really a mountaineer, more of a forest dweller. Of course there's no forests in Nevada either, lol. I'd actually prefer Oregon, but their state policies are too fucked up for me at the moment.
Our gun laws suit me and my friends/family just fine as we’re all supporters of having a gun or two in the home. Not a big drinker or tobacco smoker, so really couldn’t care a whole lot there, but it does give you an idea of how cannabis would be if it were ever legalized here. I only get dicked with alcohol when I go out expenditure wise. But yeah honestly I have little to no sympathy for the Californians and New Yorkers that move here. I was born and raised here and those that I grew up alongside young and old alike(with some exceptions) would have much rather had Nashville stay the way it was when I was young than have it turn into the bustling southern Metropolis it’s turned into. Nashville was a great middle-ground city with a lot to offer for those looking to live quiet and productive lives, hoping to raise families, etc. Now with the influx of all the fucking yankees and westerners coming in, leaving their shitty states (not realizing it was the demands made by the general population that made their homes and taxes unbearable) hoping to fuck up other places just as bad as the ones they leave. I don’t care if it’s an economic boon, either. If the population was left where it was in the late 90’s, with small incremental business growth each year, I can’t imagine unemployment being terribly high toward those that are able and want to work. But yeah that’s why I said fuck Nashville and moved out to the country. Gets ya out of the rat race, land is still far more affordable out here than it has been in Nashville for the past 5 years, people are friendlier because they’re all predominantly southern, and people also haven’t succumb to as much of the sincerely out of touch with reality political ideologies that are running rampant. Fucking Californians fucking up my nice southern culture goddamnit. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Yeah the guns laws could certainly be a lot worse, I hate paying so much for ammo though. To be fair though, most of that is a federal taxation and isn't really Tennessee's fault. I use to go to the range every weekend and shoot, can't do it anymore. I still go about twice a month though. I'm not a big drinker either, beer occasionally. I do smoke tobacco, but only 4 to 5 cigarettes a day usually. The biggest downside for me living in TN is having to constantly look over my shoulder about growing cannabis. I don't have to tell you, the laws on that can be harsh. Asset forfeiture is a very high possibility. Despite the strict cannabis laws here though, it's always amazed me how the quality of weed here is actually pretty damn good. I grow myself now, and I've got top line genetics. But even before I started growing myself the dealers always had good stuff. I haven't seen a bag of Mexican brick in forever around here, lol. I guess all these dealers are having product mailed to them. That's ultimately how I got my seeds. A buddy of mine was having product mailed to him from his brother in Oregon, occasionally he would find seeds in the bud and keep them. He gave me the seeds because he lives in a apartment and can't grow. I eventually bred them myself and now I practically have a seed bank, lol. Only downside is despite having good genetics I have no idea whats what. I've got 5 different strains and have no idea what they are. But yeah I grew up here too, an I would prefer not to leave. I've already got property here and selling everything to leave just seems like sort of a loss.
Totally understand on the ammo front. You’ll be ripping apart your wallet if you’re shooting anything other than .22’s. But yeah as long as you still get to play around with the hobby and sharpen your skills as a shooter every once and a while I personally find myself satisfied with that. And if you had some land with minimal neighbors you can forgo the range fees and shoot on your own property. But yeah dude it’s some seriously sad and scary shit, as far as the repercussions are concerned. Especially considering there are places just a couple states away where it’s as legal as it can get. Best of luck to ya, and I’m glad it sounds like you’ve had success in laying low and producing your own for a minute now, which is absolutely ideal. I’m in an obnoxious and unnecessary dry spell myself atm, given people either not picking up their phones or otherwise being out. Would much rather grow my own or run to the corner-store and be done with it. Too much of a fucking headache dealing with dealers lol. Once I’m out from under my folks roof I’ll absolutely be growing, as I’m sitting on a few seeds myself atm. And I hear ya on the genetics. I’m a big believer in keeping track of that best you can, but with the hybridization going on to the degree that it is, it’s hard not to wonder how many bastard strains I find myself smoking, no matter how good the smoke. But yeah it is quality all the same. I got mexi brick shit like twice four years ago and haven’t seen it since. All mid to high grade now. Erl is still hit or miss, but they ship in those 510 thread cartridges by the goddamn ass load lol. But yeah fuck moving far if ya don’t have to. That’s why I say the country if you can manage. Longer commute perhaps, but quieter, more private, better rates on property taxes (and the likelihood of them rising in conjunction to nearby municipalities such as Nashville is relatively low), more smaller/local businesses where your consumption actually makes a difference, more quality scenery and cleaner air etc. The city cops are cool as hell where I’m at, just gotta watch out for troopers and sherrifs. Fuckers won’t hesitate to give you a 225$ ticket for going 10 over lol. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
It does depend I suppose. I've never met more fake people than I did in TN. They claim tolerance, acceptance, and decency but live very differently. They are the same ones that think smokers belong locked up with thieves and rapist. Nashville and the surrounding suburbs have been overpriced for quite a while. Other than country music it also offers nothing that you cannot find in any other large city across the country. Living in the country is nice, but once again it is something you can do in a large number of states. Other than price, there really isn't any advantage. For not much more money I live in the country, in the Rockies, and have amazing scenery. All without archaic laws.
Damn, I didn't vacate the thread. Aside from a 3.5 hour sleep last night I been working since I posted that. I moved here from Chicago 3 years ago and I enjoy it. The schools in Clarksville are good, my kids and wife like it too. Everyone wants to get away from where they're from.
Like I said, it’s a shame. Sorry to hear it. All I can say is I’m selfishly glad that I haven’t shared that experience in particular to my location. Otherwise I’d be dying to get out too. Given our reasonably different set of experiences we’ll have to agree to disagree. But yeah, CO is sweet. I’ve got fam there and they’ve got a gorgeous set of land. Was a super solid place when I visited, and I can’t wait to return. At the end of the day though the only way I can see myself moving is through a gal I love or a job offer I can’t refuse. Home is home to me, and I’ve found mine. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Western culture and Southern culture doesn't mix well. Having said this, culture plays very little role in deciding someone's temperament or attitude. I've met dicks here, I've met dicks out west. To put it quite simple, you're going to run into dicks no matter where you go. Now, having said this, if you believe the majority of the people you meet, instead of a relatively small minority of people you meet, are "fake" it's probably just because they're telling you something you don't really want to hear (maybe largely due to the cultural differences).
It has nothing to do with telling me something I do not want to hear. I lived in the South most of my life and know southern "culture" very well.
