Michigan's Image - Chrysler 200 Commercial

  1. If Michigan can be reinvented - as Gov. Rick Snyder phrased it endlessly during his campaign - the transformation will be powered first by an image revolution.
Michigan's image problem is far greater than its economic challenges, which is why it was so encouraging to see Chrysler's eloquent portrayal of Detroit at its finest in a captivating two-minute Super Bowl commercial tonight featuring Eminem.

As a Michigander, it was really nice to see Detroit painted in positive colors for a change. I love how it reminded us that Detroit is as American as Chicago, Las Vegas, Seattle or New York City, with an American flag flying over Tiger stadium, but has a terrible image that is unshakable.

Anyways, what'd the rest of you guys think?

  2. Regardless of the inspirational commercial, Detroit is still a shit hole.

  3. Kalamazoo here, was proud as hell of that commercial. I agree with you that Detroit's image is a major problem.

  4. i think they stole aston martin's logo, you know the wings. looks just like it.

  5. yeah i sat there thinking it was a cheaper aston the whole time.:confused:

  6. I caught it at the end, when at work. I see Em there like "This is detroit, and this is what we do" in front of this epic choir in this huge stadium. Then I see "The Chrysler 200 is here."

seemed kinda overplayed... ladies and gentleman theres one thing to remember. Sick commercial, cool car = still just a car. (And this is coming from an Eminem fan.)

  7. Well, I wasn't as focused on the car as I was the tribute it payed to the entrepreneurial spirit and hard-working people of the past that put America where it is today. It advertised America, where most advertisements show things produced far, far away, or something that you click on the internet. This commercial depicted Detroit as it was back in its hey-day, the globe's auto-industry powerhouse, reminding the world that it still there, doing what its known for, but also as a historic and beautiful city, from Tiger's Stadium, to the FOX theatre, or to the Fist of a Champion.

  8. If they stole it that was a long ass time ago... chrysler's wing logo is nowhere near new.

  9. Loved the commercial. Gave some rep to Detroit that it could really use. Cuz its really NOT as big of a shithole as some make it out to be... as the commercial suggested.

  10. Not true at all. I really enjoyed the commercial, it was inspirational like Makizsushi said, but i think it reminded the people that its the things we make that make us. The best thing we can do is rally behind the idea of making good quality products at competitive prices, while still allowing for a decent living. Although the last part, the allowing for a decent living, was one of the factors that brought down this working giant, I think with proper balance Detroit can be prosperous again.

  11. the new one:

  12. ^Almost as lazy as the Porsche designers.

    What happened to originality?

  13. Rap happened. Just think of the logo as a "remix" of the Aston Martin logo.

  14. What does rap have to do with this?

Clearly you aren't listening to the same stuff i am if you think rap is unoriginal.

  15. 'Twas a joke, clearly you aren't smoking the same stuff I am if you think I was serious.

  16. to whoever said Detroit isn't a shit hole..... ha. It's definitely a shit hole. A corrupt, dangerous, dirty city.

and eminem walking into the fox theatre (was it the fox? i don't remember) made me laugh. he would never play a show in the fox theatre. and imported from detroit? aren't chrysler's main buildings/places of operation in sterling heights and auburn hills?

instead of making me want to buy a chrysler (that commercial pretty much had NOTHING to do with chrysler), if anything it would make me want to "root" for detroit or however you wanna spin it.

  17. When I saw that in the ad I lol'd so hard.

Importing means bringing in from a foreign country, fuckin idiots don't even know the meaning of the word.

  18. Obviously they didnt mean it literally... wow people. If this commercial confused you, i wonder what you think of the Geiko woodchuck commercial. You know woodchucks , aka groundhogs dont really chuck wood right?

  19. It was to show that the car is American made. Not imported from Japan, or Germany. But it comes from an American city, Detroit.

Jeez you simpletons, try to understand symbolism in both words and symbols. Don't take everything literally, you'll live a boring life.

  20. I agree man I think the commercial is wonderful. The camera angles, the narrator, the whole feeling it gave me, was captivating.

It doesn't mean I'm going to buy a car from them though...
