Mh Vs Hps (Who Gives Off More Heat)

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by UncomfortablyStoned, May 2, 2014.

  1. I have a air cooled reflector, with a duct fan ( 240cfm supposedly), and i'm forcing my plants into flowering early because i'm afraid I wont be able to keep the heat down when it gets hotter within the next 2 months. Right now the fan is doing a good job of keeping the heat down, but it also hasnt been over 70 since they have been in veg. And if the HPS burns cooler than I could veg for another week or soo

So does a MH bulb burn hotter than a HPS bulb ?

  2. I believe it is the other way around... I think HPS burns hotter than MH.

that's why ill have to flower within the next week! I wont be able to keep the temperatures down!

  4. You really should look into getting an air conditioner, even used if money is an issue. Find a used one then try to barter to get it as cheap as possible. lol

Really, you have 6 plants, but they are tiny. If you let them veg for 6 weeks, they will be in a much better position to give you a big yield. You might get 20% of that yield if you start flower now.

  5. I'm already down 1000$ I dont wanna spend anymore until I know what i'm doing, by next year I will defiantly have a a/c running! I'm also going to try and add 6 more clones just to fill up the area right before flowering, I'm only allowed 12 (michigan law)

  6.
Drop in the bucket, should be a nice yield. :bongin:

  7. Yeah I run one of each and my MH is cooler, also dimmer.

What's your cool tube ventilation like? If you cut down on the length of ducting and rid some bends it will pass more air per time. Do you have your fan blowing through the tube or sucking through?

  8. Air conditioners are cheap on craigs list

  9.
That's where I found my 12000 BTU portable, and I got it for $150! :hello:

  10. MH burns hotter than HPS all day long. I know as I use x2 600w MH and x2 600w Hps in my flower room and the temps under the MH is always hotter than under the HPS

Sent from my GT-N7105 using Grasscity Forum mobile app

  11.
I have a 250w HPS and a 250w MH in my flower tent and the HPS is way hotter

Blowing through! it's not a tube, it's a yeild master 2 6 in reflector (closed air cooled)

I know, but i'll blow a circuit, my electrical is from the 60's...in a trailer. After this summer i will defiantly be more prepared for next summer

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess i'll just wait until there two weeks mark comes up ( in 3 days ) and send them to flowering I dont wanna risk it

Are there any way you can make your ducting any straighter? I guess a bigger fan might be in order, what sort of temperature does outside the grow area get to?

I always struggle in the summer, I have digital dimmable ballasts so if all else fails at least I can turn the ballasts down a notch. Giving your plants less light isn't the first go to solution though

  14. Ducting is as straight as it's going to get lol I live in a trailer so not much installation (old ass trailer) and it gets so hot in the room im growing in that we keep the door closed during the summer or else the whole trailer will be hot. I have a digital ballast as well!

If I have a 600w bulb and I turn the ballast to 400w what happens? Do i have to change the bulb to a 400w?

No you don't have to change bulbs, the bulb simply dims a bit. Don't switch while it's on though. Switch off, dim down to 400 then wait for the bulb to cool before turning back on. Or what I do is dim it when they are on their dark cycle

  16. and this will cause the temp to lower a bit? Less energy=less heat?

  17. Yeah the heat output will be that of a 400w instead of a 600w. But if it's hot outside anyway you still may need some extra effort.

Have you tried filling bottles with water, milk jugs work well. Freeze them and then put them in a bucket or tray in case they leak and have a fan blow on them. This helps cool the room. It can be worth putting one near the intake fan so the air is chilled as it enters the grow area

  18. Why has the guy put a polystyrene liner in there? Insulating the buckets seems a little futile when there is a constant stream of air running through it lol. I bet it works well as a whole though.

    Edit...
Maybe the liner is to stop condensation building up on the outside of the bucket perhaps

  19. I was just going to buy a cooler ( like the orange cylinder type ones you see on football side lines) and drill holes in it like he did. Figure it will work perfectly
