Stupid Q?!!!!! Can u Put A HPS lamp into A MH Fitting will the ballast cope?????? Thanks anyone who can help
^Roger that. The two types of bulbs work differently and require different types of ballasts, so either get a switchable ballast or a conversion MH bulb, which is made specifically to run off a HPS ballast. The bulbs must have the exact same wattage as the ballast.
I use SUNBEAM ballasts and they say 400W-HID. They take both HPS and MH and have NO switch. I guess it depends on the quality of the product you buy but some can and some can't.
Wow, didnt know SUNBEAM, made such a thing. Guess it depends on products and where you live. Id hate to have to put a bulb into a socket just to see if it works though
Some ballasts can sense the bulb type (they have different induction characteristics, or something), and react accordingly. But it would certainly be labelled as such. Otherwise, no. -mu
I totally agree Anony, you should never plug bulbs into ballasts if it was never designed to take the bulb. I hate fire in the grow room. The ballasts were expensive, came with Philips (SON-T PLUS) HPS and (HPI-T PLUS) MH bulbs. My friend also has the same ballast but he has only one, puts any make of bulb in his but I stick with philips.
