  1. After 28,000 people have died in drug violence across mexico Felipe Calderon is finally going to consider a debate on drug legalization!! This is big news and maybe he will finally stand up against the U.S. and tell them that this is the only thing that will work!!... Mexico: 28,000 killed in drug violence since 2006 - Yahoo! News

  2. I guess it's a nice example that I hope might draw some attention and somehow affect our government; really it's the legal status here that matters because the cartels exist based on the U.S's demand for an illegal product.

  3. Took you long enough!

I guess they are finally starting to admit that maybe the shit we're doing, ain't doing shit. The war isn't going to stop, the cartels aren't going to stop the killing, in fact all they'll do is start to kill more to prove their point.

"Some attendees criticized the government for lacking consistent statistics on the drug war and an effective way to communicate its successes. They also said the government needs to do more to combat the financial arm of organized crime."
Oh I wonder what the legalization of the main cash crop for the cartels will have?

  4. Dear God. 28,000 people. Poor Mexico. That's the population of my home town. I can't wrap my mind around it. It's a disgrace. Over a god damned plant. Un-fucking-believable.

  5. It's about time. They should have a long time ago. These cartels have gotten nearly 100% of their profit from illegal drugs. Make them legal just like alcohol and stop wasting taking valuable taxpayer money that is funding something that can never be changed, and their monopoly over these illegal drugs would be destroyed.

  6. it's still gonna rage......mexicos pushing that black tar.....

  7. Yeah but police forces focus on the Cannabis trade, with cannabis legal they could focus more on the hard drugs. Or just make it all legal, I'm cool with that.

  8. Mexico's already legalized possession of small amounts of everything. They did it with the blessing of John Walters - our drug czar at the time. I wonder what they're considering now?

  9. Lol ignorant people are ignorant.

Found this in one of the comments: " People these drug dealers ARE murderers and need to be stopped = but legalizing drugs is NOT the answer. Imagine driving in traffic with your kids in the back seat knowing the drivers around you are high on pot? What is this world coming to?"

    Made me lol.

  10. That's stupid. People are already (successfully) driving high - legalization won't make that happen, it's already happening right now.

Until the prohibition can eliminate marijuana smoking in America it'll continue to cause far more harm than it prevents!!

  11. It's about time, the x-president of mexico has been saying this same thing for a while.

California's set to end this stuff in November, and i can't Wait for it to be over.

  12. Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. If you remember, Prop. 8 was passed because of a last minute "think-of-the-children" campaign. It was a brilliant strategy that caused knee jerk reactions with parents of grade school kids.

By the way, the Prop. 8 trial decision will be announced today. ::keeping fingers crossed::

  13. This won't end the violence though. The Cartels still have the wonderful marijuana consuming market of the USA.

Even our own politicians admit that it is our demand for drugs that drive these cartels. So until the US legalizes, things won't be as good as they could be.

We'll see though, I hope there is a serious debate.

  14. This would be a good thing if it happens. While the cartels will still have a large market in the United States, the drugs could be manufactured by legitimate companies and be much safer. So if nothing else, the quality of drugs here in the states would increase dramatically. Also, Mexico is closer to me than California. Mexico could make a lot of money from the increase in tourism.

  15. if they legalize marijuana then it will be easier for cartels to grow and transport making it easier to get money from american consumption making the cartels even stronger!

  16. Those drugs would not come into the United States since it would still be illegal here. Only the drugs smuggled in by the cartels would be crossing the border.

But it would take production out of the black market where it could be regulated. Viagra is legal in Mexico without a prescription and you don't see the cartels running around smuggling Viagra. I know there are lots of differences but getting stuff out of the black market only helps. Today, if two cartels have problems with each other, people are shot. If it was legal, they could go to court and settle it. You don't see American pharmaceutical companies or alcohol companies shooting each other in the streets.

But they would. They would come illegally but they would be the same product. If the cartels could buy a drug in the store, why would they bother to pay some random dude to make it in his basement?
