I'm curious on everyone's methods of using their micro scope.. I have to station my plant and steady the scope, the biggest pain in the ass. How do you use your scope?
i cut off a small tip of a sugar leaf and look at it on a flat surface.. i can't steady it long enough to get an idea of trich percentages any other way
^Zactly. Take one or two tiny snippets off the bud (like 1/4 the size of a grain of rice), take those out of the grow space and put on a white sheet of paper, then look at them under regular light (it can be hard to tell what's amber and what's not under red-spectrum flowering light)...
I read it on these forums somewhere so I don't take the credit for the idea and I don't recall who suggested it BUT I did try it and I am over the top impressed with the following method. If you have a digital camera with a macro setting take a picture and then view with nothing more than MS viewer or whatever software you have to view a picture. You can enlarge the picture with your computer and dial in those trich's like they were being viewed through an electron microscope. It is one cool ass method. If you have a tripod it's even better. Try it. It's awsome.
I've been trying both methods, but I'm not sure if I'll really see the color changes with my camera (when I get to that point). I will probably need to ghetto together some kind of tripod. I hope the camera works, because I find it hard as hell to cut pieces off of my girls - especially glistening, crystally pieces! I really don't think the camera will come close to the 30x - 100x scope I just bought at RadioShack for $12 though. It's crazy what those trichs look like under that!
Weird timing! Five minutes after I sent my previous post in this thread, my son walked in with the mail. Two jeweler's eye loupes that I ordered on 2/8 and forgot about arrived. They were just $1.37 each and that included postage! No shit! They came from Hong Kong by US mail. Girls aren't up yet, so I haven't tested them on trichs, but I think these are going to work just fine for looking right at the buds still on the plant. I got the link out of a post here on GC, but I don't recall where. Anyway, here's the Ebay link to it: 30 x 21mm Glass Jeweler Loupe Eye Magnifier Magnifying - eBay (item 260477902874 end time Mar-15-10 00:52:29 PDT) Hell, for a $1.37 total, you can't go wrong!
Nice find, let me know how it works. I wonder how 30x will look. i also just made a 7.5g brownie batch, chowed, and now being lectured on artificial intelligence
Radioshack sells a 30x-100x zoom hand held microscope with a light (identical to the "420 scope" but cheap) it perfect for seeing ripeness...and it costs $11 WHOO WHOO!
Very weird, quoting myself... Everybody in this thread - if you can afford the $1.37, go order one or two of these things right now!!!!! Very cool. You just hold it as close to your strong eye as you can and then use the distance to bud to focus. Yes, you can see the trich color.
Sweet Thanks again MX! I just ordered 2 as well.. 2 of these for under 3$ shipped is pretty amazing lol...
