Menafee Humates

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Tree dogg, Sep 12, 2012.

  1. Does anyone have any info on this amendment?

    Here is what I found

    "Menefee Humates
    Hundreds of millions
    of years ago the lush
    rainforests and tropical
    swamplands of
    Precambrian New
    Mexico produced
    plant matter that, through
    millions of years of composting
and burial under layers of water
and sand, metamorphosed into the coal-like material of the Menefee formation. Tectonic and volcanic activity brought it back to the surface and exposed the layer for mining. Humates contain 65% humic acid in a carbon matrix to chelate minerals and nutrients making them more easily available to soil microorganisms and plants. Extensive tests at agricultural stations have shown marked crop improvement when Menefee Humates were applied. Use 6-10#/1000 sq ft or 250-400#/acre/year in several applications and mix into the soil surface for best results."

    From fedco catalog

But there is no info about usage rates.

    Thanks

  3. I'm not familiar with that humate product. How expensive is it? Bioag makes great, real-deal humate products. If the menafee is more expensive, I'd go with bioag. HTH

This is a product brochure for recomended rates and anaysis.

Earthgreen Menefee Humate All Natural Organic Soil Conditioner

One product review abstract of the Menefee Humate <site> indicates a pH of 6.2 for this product. Something to consider with container gardening and within the context of buffering capability in a constricted space. Perhaps one-half to one-qtr the recommended usage rate.

  10. Thanks for the input.
