Hey guys. I'm new to growing, and I just wanted to ask what a medium is. I was guessing it was just what you plant the seed in, but I also was thinking it may be something you plant the seed in just until it sprouts, and then you move it to something bigger. But I may be wrong. Thanks guys.
Medium is just a word that means whatever you decided to put your plant in so that it may form a root structure and have something to anchor too.
The growing medium, aka the substrate, is what the plant's roots grow in. The one thing all mediums have in common is they all anchor the plant. Some, like most soil mixes, provide nutrients as well. Without a medium to grow in, the plant would not be able to stand on its own.
