Medium For Seedlings?

  1. I am wanting to get my seeds started but am worried about burnin the seedlings. What do you guys use for soul for seedlings? I am wanting to transplant to fox farms ocean fresh/perlite. When should I transplant from solo cup? Should I transfer to 1 gal or straight to the 5 gallon?

  2. Wormcastings, pro-mix, and perlite. One part each.

If you don't mix your own soil then I'd recommend Foxfarm's Light Warrior, it won't burn your seedlings. Nutes last about 1-2 weeks so I'd plant them in solo cups, then pot up.

  3. What is pro mix? I there a brand name?

Cheap potting mix.  Dont use a seed starting mix it sucks, too much perlite will makes a loose fall apart mix making transplanting a bitch and possible root damage. I add 10% perlite myself.

    solo cup - 1 gallon- 5 gallon.

Over potting stunts tiny plants. they cant drink all the water so sit on sloppy stale water. Roots need air, its very important.

  5.
Yes, it's sold in a huge bale for $35 so it might be too much for your needs. I'm in it for the long haul so I stock up on supplies, small bag of seed starting soil should be fine for you.

  6. What kind of potting mix do you use? Have you heard of geopots? They are supposed to help get air to your plants roots. Thanks for your help!

I use perlite / peat, 50/50 - 30/70 for seedlings, then pot up after a couple of weeks

  8. I grow my auto's with 50/50 Ocean Forest and perlite. The last two grows I've utilized 50/50 Happy Frog and perlite for the top 4 or 5 inches and now prefer that and will stay with that.
