TO: Marijuana policy reform advocates FROM: Alexis Baden-Mayer, MPP national field director DATE: Thursday, July 17, 2003 SUBJECT: Medical marijuana votes in Congress: Call to praise or blame your U.S. representative! ====================================================================== U.S. House of Representatives committee actions on medical marijuana continued on Tuesday, July 15, with yet another valuable roll call vote (see below). Now, it's time to get ready for the first floor vote on medical marijuana in the House in five years. Next week, U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) is planning to propose an amendment to the Commerce, Justice, State, and Judiciary Appropriations bill that would defund the DEA's raids on state-approved medical marijuana patients and providers. Please help the Marijuana Policy Project prepare for this vote by checking the roll call votes listed below to see if your U.S. representative has earned praise or blame recently. If he or she has, call today and express your support for medical marijuana. If your representative is not listed here, please wait for our next action alert, in which all subscribers will be asked to send letters to Congress in support of the Hinchey amendment. ====================================================================== 2003 U.S. HOUSE COMMITTEE ROLL CALL VOTES ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- July 9, 2003 - HR 2086 -- Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Reauthorization Act of 2003 Amendment proposed by Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) that would deny funding to any agency that attempts to enforce a federal law in a state that has a conflicting state law addressing medical marijuana Rejected 11-17 YEAS (11) If your U.S. representative is on the following list, please call to praise him or her for defending the rights of medical marijuana patients and providers who abide by state laws: Baldwin, Tammy (D-WI) ........... 202-225-2906 / 202-225-6942 (fax) Conyers, John (D-MI) ............ 202-225-5126 / 202-225-0072 (fax) Jackson-Lee, Sheila (D-TX) ...... 202-225-3816 / 202-225-3317 (fax) Lofgren, Zoe (D-CA) ............. 202-225-3072 / 202-225-3336 (fax) Meehan, Martin (D-MA) ........... 202-225-3411 / 202-226-0771 (fax) Nadler, Jerrold (D-NY) .......... 202-225-5635 / 202-225-6923 (fax) Sanchez, Linda (D-CA) ........... 202-225-6676 / 202-226-1012 (fax) Schiff, Adam (D-CA) ............. 202-225-4176 / 202-225-5828 (fax) Scott, Bobby (D-VA) ............. 202-225-8351 / 202-225-8354 (fax) Waters, Maxine (D-CA) ........... 202-225-2201 / 202-225-7854 (fax) Watt, Melvin (D-NC) ............. 202-225-1510 / 202-225-1512 (fax) NAYS (17) If your U.S. representative is on the following list, please call to blame him or her for encouraging continued attacks on medical marijuana patients and providers who abide by state laws: Blackburn, Marsha (R-TN) ........ 202-225-2811 / 202-225-3004 (fax) Cannon, Chris (R-UT) ............ 202-225-7751 / 202-225-5629 (fax) Carter, John (R-TX) ............. 202-225-3864 Chabot, Steve (R-OH) ............ 202-225-2216 / 202-225-3012 (fax) Coble, Howard (R-NC) ............ 202-225-3065 / 202-225-8611 (fax) Feeney, Tom (R-FL) .............. 202-225-2706 / 202-226-6299 (fax) Forbes, Randy (R-VA) ............ 202-225-6365 / 202-226-1170 (fax) Gallegly, Elton (R-CA) .......... 202-225-5811 / 202-225-1100 (fax) Goodlatte, Bob (R-VA) ........... 202-225-5431 / 202-225-9681 (fax) Green, Mark (R-WI) .............. 202-225-5665 / 202-225-5729 (fax) Hart, Melissa (R-PA) ............ 202-225-2565 / 202-226-2274 (fax) Hostettler, John (R-IN) ......... 202-225-4636 / 202-225-3284 (fax) Jenkins, Bill (R-TN) ............ 202-225-6356 / 202-225-5714 (fax) Keller, Ric (R-FL) .............. 202-225-2176 / 202-225-0999 (fax) King, Steve (R-IA) .............. 202-225-4426 / 202-225-3193 (fax) Sensenbrenner, Jim (R-WI) ....... 202-225-5101 / 202-225-3190 (fax) Smith, Lamar (R-TX) ............. 202-225-4236 / 202-225-8628 (fax) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- July 15, 2003 - Fiscal Year 2004 D.C.
