Medical Marijuana Side Effects (yes, there are some)

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by P. Aiden Hunt, Jul 30, 2013.

  1. While I agree with all the talk about cannabis being a miracle medicine, if we want people to be serious about legalizing it everywhere, we have to be honest with ourselves. I keep reading people saying that cannabis is so much better because it doesn't have side effects like prescription drugs. While I agree that it is much better than any medication I've ever tried and it's changed my life, it's not perfect.

The fact is, cannabis does have numerous negative side effects. We don't think of them as such, because we love them, but for the medical community, loss of short-term memory, danger of cancer from inhaling carcinogens, disorientation, auditory and/or visual hallucinations, loss of motor coordination and severe dry mouth are considered serious negative side effects.

This, fellow blades, is why I want legalization. If it were legalized, it could be industrialized and scientists could make money from it so they would start studying it much more thoroughly, which they cannot do now. With more study they may be able to keep the medically beneficial properties while reducing or negating the negative side effects. And hell, if it's legal in general, they could even take the fun properties and sell it as a social relaxant like alcohol.

While I don't want to kill anyone's buzz, we all want legalization and the only way it's going to come is with information.

  2. Actually a proven fact any carcinogenic materials in cannabis released when smoking are counteracted by thc and cbd hence the reason people dont get lung cancer from purely smoking cannabis. Get your facts straight first.

  3. Visual hallucinations from cannabis is also bullshit haha such a misconception. In my 12 plus years of smoking never saw anything out of the ordinary when smoking. If anything my vision would get better called it hd vision.

  4. not true, legal weed=expensive weed

  5. Dry mouth doesnt sound too serious drink water Lol. Never lostmotor functions when high if nythingit keeps me motivated and focused through out the day. If anything ur describing extremes to someone who never smokes andrips a dab orsomething haha. A regular Med Mj user like myself rips whole bongs of hash and I feel great and cn get through my day without pain and eat properly.

  6.
Could you show me the study from a reputable source that details this? I have seriously never heard it. And as or hallucinations, full ones are uncommon, but the way colors get brighter and things sometimes seem distorted is a precursor.

  7.
I smoke, vape, am about to scrape my next batch of oil to do dabs, make edibles, hash. Loss of motor functions is not considered complete loss, it is impairment.

  8. Granny Storm Crow has a whole thread with links to medical studies. Let me see if I can dig itup.

  9.
I would agree with you if that theory had not been contradicted completely by medical marijuana states. Check Weedmaps for prices in dispensaries in CO or CA. Top quality cannabis at often less than street price for regs.

  10. Plain and simple fact cannabis is a drugneeds to be respected as such. Its the safest but with inexperienced and low tolerance users can be anissue. Everyone is different as far as chemical makeup. Me and cannabis just mesh well and I can be high all day andnoone knows the difference. It doesnt change me just makes me feel better and takes away my ailments.

  11.
Considering that no marijuana only smoker has contracted lung cancer, or even brown/black lung..

  12. To be clear, I am talking about medical application. Not herbal supplement. There are standards for what are and are not considered serious side effects. They are not always ones that kill you or even hurt you. Loss of concentration is a common side effect (anyone who argues this will not be getting any more responses from me). While I don't care much about loss of concentration when I'm trying to get rid of my pain, it is a major disruption to standard daily life. This makes it a serious side effect by medical standards.

  13.
I will admit, I am not up to date on the cancer studies. The other side effects, though, I can vouch for experiencing myself.

  14. from my personal experience in California that's not true, i could get dank at $25 an eigth, or pay $17 for a gram at a dispensary(top shelf) for 1-2% more thc if that, and the thing with recreational vs medical is that legal for recreational use is taxed higher than medical use (afaik, not going out of my way to prove this, but feel free to disprove me)

  15. Then dont talk to me cause it helps me concentrate and focus. Shuts out all theextraneous noise. As I said everyone is different forme it calms mymind and allows me to concentrate properly.

  16.
You're also blowing those out of proportion. Brighter colors are not hallucinations. Severe dry mouth? Get a drink. Short term memory loss is only -while- high. The motor control impairment is mild at best. None of these side effects can even be remotely called serious.

  17. well then you should know cannabis helps cure cancer not cause it. I am a professor of Marijuana prettysure I know what Im talking about been doing this 12 yearsmy man. No noob here. Chck my journals I grow monster ganja trees all day. It helps many people live a better qualityoflife with minimal sideeffects compared to poisonous chemically based pharmies.

  18. Op, fails hehehe Try to start a thread after you have informed urself first. ;)
