I watch Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell most evenings and now there is a new story making the rounds and getting folks pissed off about marijuana use. In Nebraska somewhere there is this teen mom and her teen boyfriend who got blazed and duct taped their 22 month old boy to the wall. My first reaction was to chuckle but afterward I felt bad for the little boy. But anyway... my point being that everyone was acting like "that demon weed made them bad parents!" I disagree. I think they were very young and stupid stoned with no actual intent to harm the child but they didn't think about how it might effect him emotionally. Do you think the anti-legalization folks might use this as ammunition against marijuana?
It probably went a little like this: "You know what would be funny? Duct taping a kid to a wall!" "Hahahahaha! That would be hilarious! We should do it!" I agree with OP, there was probably no intent to hurt the child. But on the Stupid Stoner Ideas Scale, this would be at least an 8.
I find that pretty funny and harmless. I've always wanted to ducttape someone to a wall, and if someone wanted to do it to me, I'd gladly let them. Too bad they didn't make a big deal about the man on PCP who scraped his 4 year old daughter/sons eyes out. The media focuses on this, but not the amount of accidents that drunk drivers have a part in creating.
More people have been duct taped to a wall under the influence of alcohol then weed. Shit must happen on a weekly basis in colleges around the world.
America loves to make a big deal out of little shit don't we? Like video taping the kid who was fucked up from the anesthesia after the dentist. The kid wasn't hurt, no harm no foul. He probably won't have some terrible emotional reaction later in life cuz of being taped to a wall. 2 years in jail is a ridiculous punishment.
They didn't use those exact words but made it perfectly clear their thoughts that people who smoke pot are bad parents. They called it PUI = parenting under the influence.
