Materials for SCROG

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by JKill, Mar 12, 2019.

  1. What do you all like yo use for your SCROG? would just normal netting for plants from the garden centre work okay? thanks!

  2. I've used that plastic gardening fence and it worked well. However, I've found that PVC pipes fashioned into a square with screws like a frame, work very well with string and allows more light to penetrate through the SCROG. It is also easier to repair should something break or go wrong. But, the normal netting for plants will work if you don't want to make your own. Just make sure that you fix it in place otherwise the plant can raise the SCROG net up and can be less effective. Good luck!

  5. The nets you find at the home centers is not a scrog net - they're trellis nets. A scrog net is placed 8" - 12" above the top of the pot - it usually has 3" openings and is pulled very tight to train the plant and force the branches to grow horizontally under the net. Most people make their own with pvc and mason line. Good luck. :)

    So many beginners buy a support net thinking it will work and it doesn't. You need a screen, hence the name. Using cord can work but it needs to be extremely tight otherwise the plants will bully it around. Because of this I prefer to use a steel screen, it's rigid, will last forever, and you don't have to make it. Cable tying it to a frame will still need to be done but it's minimal work.

    It's best to have the holes 2" wide.
    It's a simple case of keeping all the growing shoots under the screen while vegging and when the plant has filled the screen, allow all the growing shoots to grow up through the screen at the same time. Switch to flower either at this point or up to a week or even two later depending on how stretchy the plant is and how tall you want all the growing shoots to be.

    This is the screen I use, I made it several years ago and still using it

  7. Thanks for the responses everyone! @trojangrower yeah i got the "how to scrog" link brother. and have definitely checked it out!!!

    @MickFoster 10-4, thanks brother!

    @GoldGrower Nice set up man!!! and thanks for the info! on the next grow I will definitely try something similar to that!!!

    I should have named this Thread "help I fucked up! my plant is growing into my light" o_O hahaha

    yeah I guess its really NOT a Scrog at this point. i'm pretty much just going to throw a net over the top of it and tie it down as best i can to just stop any more vertical growth...or at least try to stop it. Might end up having to super crop again...

    Thanks again guys!

  8. Yeah it sounds like LST, which works just fine too. ScrOG does away with the need to tie stuff down to the right height but the end goal is the same, to make an even canopy which fills the area
